A pair of Federal Way girls soccer teams won prestigious Dairy Farmers of Washington President’s Cup state titles last weekend. The Federal Way United Fury, an under-13 team, and the Federal Way United Xtreme, an under-11 team, captured titles on Dec. 8 and 9.

The President’s Cup is a tournament played in November and December that crowns the top recreational soccer team in the state. The road to the finals includes preliminary games to get to District, three games to decide the District champion and three games to decide who plays in the state final.

The Federal Way United Fury beat the Dophins in the championship game, 2-0, on Dec. 9 at Tumwater High School.

The team includes Kendal Buell, Lexie Gilbert, Lindsay Hernandez, Jillian Honrade, Sierra Howard, Hannah Kim, Sara Lyons, Ashley McBroom, Vazhia McIntosh, Benicia Mecina, Caitlin Meyers, Sydney Miyahara, Justice Perry, Jasmyn Throckmorton and Jenifer Tran. The team is coached by Barry Perry and Robert Miyahara.

The Xtreme beat the Lil’ Angels from Yakima in the final at Shelton High School on Dec. 8, 3-0. The Xtreme is currently in first place in their regular-season division (U-11 Gold Klondike).

The team includes Olivia Blevens, Savannah Flewelling, Melissa Garcia, Paige Lewin, Katelyn Kim, Alex Portnow, Maddie McFarland, Kyla Lusink, Jazmine Harrington, Shelby Flewelling, Hailey Gagner, Rachel O’Connell, Celine Woo and Kaylee Kebba.

The girls were coached by Steve Collins, who was assisted by Ken Blevens.

• Thomas Jefferson graduate Michael Markey is currently in his first season with the St. Cloud State (Minnesota) wrestling team.

Markey, a junior transfer from Highline Community College, has started out 5-3 wrestling at both 149 and 157 pounds for the Huskies. Markey recently took third at the Dragon Open in Moorhead, Minn. for SCSU.

St. Cloud State is located an hour northwest of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and is currently in its last year as a member of the North Central Conference, which includes Augustana (S.D.), Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State-Mankato, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

• Champs Sports is now registering teams and individual players for their upcoming Youth Basketball league. League plays in Federal Way and is open to boys and girls in fifth through eighth grade. The league starts Jan. 19. For more information, call (206) 420-4625.
