Women’s basketball

Talia Walton — The Federal Way grad is currently playing her redshirt freshman season at the University of Washington and having a huge year. Last year, as a true freshman, Walton played in one game before deciding to redshirt after injuring her knee.

The 6-foot-2 forward has started all 25 games this season for the Huskies and is second on the team, averaging 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Washington is 19-8 on the season. Walton had knee surgery a month before the season started.

Walton was also named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week earlier this month. Walton averaged 15.5 points and seven rebounds in Washington’s weekend split with UCLA and USC on Feb. 7 and 9.

It was the third Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor for Walton, all coming during conference play. She also won the award after sweeping the Arizona and Oregon schools at home. This award is for week of March 4-10.

While at Federal Way, Walton was named the Associated Press Class 4A Washington Prep Girls Basketball Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to the state title game. Walton averaged 17 points and close to 13 rebounds per game.

Men’s basketball

Cole Dickerson — The 2010 Federal Way grad is having a standout season at the University of San Francisco. The junior is leading the Dons in both scoring and rebounding. The 6-foot-7 forward has started all 28 of the Dons’ games this year and is averaging 14.5 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. The rebounding total ranks first in the West Coast Conference and his scoring average is ninth in the league.

San Francisco is 13-15 on the year and 6-9 in the West Coast Conference. Last year, Dickerson played in all 30 USF games averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds for the Dons.

Michael Hale III — The Federal Way High School graduate is playing his senior season at the University of Texas-San Antonio. The 5-foot-8 point guard transferred after playing two seasons at North Idaho College.

Hale is averaging 16.0 points, 3.7 assists for the Roadrunners, who are 7-19 on the year. They are also 2-12 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Last year, Hale III averaged 9.9 points and started 24 games for the Roadrunners. During his time at North Idaho, Hale III was second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference averaging 18.2 points and 4.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game as a sophomore.

Jeffrey Forbes — The 2009 Federal Way grad is playing his senior year at Eastern Washington University. The point guard became the 16th player in Eagle basketball history to score 1,000 career points on Saturday during an 81-76 win over Sam Houston State.

Forbes went over the 1,000-point mark with 2:39 left on a key 3-pointer that helped EWU maintain a nine-point lead. Later, he made a pair of free throws as EWU made 7-of-8 shots from the charity stripe in the final 54 seconds to hold off the Bearkats. Forbes is also now just two games away from the school record of 119 career games played.

Forbes has started 21 games this season and is averaging 6.3 points. Eastern is 9-18 on the season.

Last year, Forbes started all 30 of the Eagles’ games and averaged 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds. The Eagles finished fourth in the Big Sky Conference during the regular season. As a sophomore, Forbes started 23 games and averaged 9.8 points and 2.6 rebounds a game. As a true freshman, Forbes averaged 10.5 points a game.

Cam Schilling — The 2009 Decatur graduate recently completed his senior season at Pacific Lutheran University and led the Lutes in scoring and rebounding. Schilling averaged 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds a game for the Lutes. He is a 6-foot-4 forward. PLU finished 8-17 this season.

He was recently earned second-team, All-Northwest Conference by the league’s coaches. He finished seventh in the league in scoring and third in rebounding. Schilling finished his collegiate career with 1,043 points, which ranks 23rd on PLU’s all-time scoring list.

Last season, Schilling started all 25 games and averaged 13.3 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Lutes, who were 12-13. He was an honorable mention, All-Northwest Conference selection.

Travis Wagner — The Decatur High School grad recently wrapped up his senior season at Evergreen State University for the Geoducks. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 8.6 points and 2.9 rebounds for 2-24 Evergreen. Last year, he averaged 8.0 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. Evergreen State finished 1-26 last year.

Eric Radford — The 2010 Thomas Jefferson grad is playing his junior season at the University of Redlands in California. The 6-foot-5 forward is averaging 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. The Bulldogs are 22-5 on the season.

The Bulldogs recently punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III Championships for the second time in three years by defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Saturday to win the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Redlands will take on eighth-ranked Whitworth in Spokane at 7 p.m. Saturday in the first round.

Last year, Radford started 24 games and averaged 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds a game for the 13-13 Bulldogs.

Xavyr Moss — The Jefferson grad recently completed his junior season at Pomona-Pitzer College in California. Moss’ team was eliminated by Radford’s College of the Redlands on Feb. 22.

This year, Moss averaged 10.3 points and 3.5 rebounds for the 14-10 Sagehens. During his sophomore season in 2011, Moss was a first-team, All-SCIAC selection after leading the Sagehens in scoring. He took off the 2012 season to study abroad and teach English in Beijing, China.
