Tracking the Grads: Softball and track athletes excelling in college

Lindsey Kay Bright — The 2008 Decatur High School graduate is leading the Fordham softball team with a .366 average. The freshman outfielder has started all 34 games and has scored 22 runs, one double, seven RBIs and is leading the team with 18 stolen bases. Fordham is currently 22-12 on the season.

Bright was a three-time first-team, All-SPSL selection and four-time All-City selection in high school.

Leslie Davis — The Federal Way graduate is playing softball at Montana State-Billings. Currently, Davis is hitting .284 with eight doubles, two home runs and 14 RBIs. She has started 34 games and Montana State-Billings is 26-10.

Last year, Davis earned first-team Greater Northwest Conference honors as a third baseman. Davis hit .361 and belted a team-high 15 doubles and was one of three players to play and start in all 49 games. Davis tied for the team lead with 57 hits and was second in slugging percentage at .614. She also had seven home runs and 33 RBIs.

Montana State-Billings finished the season with a 28-21 record.

Kristi Sigafoos — The 2006 TJ grad is playing her junior year at Saint Martin’s College in Lacey as a second baseman. Sigafoos is currently hitting .232 with five doubles, one home run and five RBIs. She has started all 24 games and St. Martin’s is 3-21.

Last year, Sigafoos was named to the All-GNAC honorable mention after she hit .261 with seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 23 RBIs. Saint Martin’s finished the season 21-33 overall.

Jade Clare — The 2006 Beamer grad is playing her junior season at Stony Brook University in New York. Clare is a catcher for the Sea Wolves and is hitting .214 with four doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs. She has started 16 games and Stony Brook is currently 18-3.

Last year, Clare started 44 games during the season. Stony Brook finished the regular season with a 30-21 record.

Tim Satterwhite — The TJ grad is currently competing on the Western Washington University track and field team. Satterwhite transferred to Western from Texas Southern.

Last year, he finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 46-7 1/4 at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Ellensburg.

Amy Colvin — The TJ grad is competing in her freshman year for the Western Washington track team. Colvin is a pole vaulter.

Christina Gonzales — The TJ grad is a distance runner at Western Washington University.

McKinley Williams — The Todd Beamer graduate is currently running track at Western Washington University. The sophomore is a distance runner.

Amanda Stewart — The Decatur High School grad is competing in her redshirt freshman season at Washington State. Stewart is a high jumper, who finished in the top-six at the state meet every year during high school. Her highest finish was third as a freshman.

Princess Joy Griffey — The 2006 Decatur grad is running on the Washington State track team. Griffey is competing in her junior year for the Cougars and running in sprint events. During the indoor season, she finished third in the 60-meter dash at the MPSF Championships in a time of 7.48.

Last year, she finished 11th in the 100m in a time of 11.72 at the Pac-10 Championships and eighth in the 200 (24.00).

As a freshman, Griffey set a freshman school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.47, which is the third-best time in WSU history. She also ran the fifth-best 100-meter time in school history last year (11.72). Griffey won three state championships in high school.

Justin Englund — The 2008 Decatur grad is running track at Washington State University and finished 50th at the Pac-10 Championships in the fall in cross country. Englund is running the 1600 and 3200 for the Cougar track team.

Ezra John Griffey — The 2008 Decatur grad is competing in his first season for the Washington State track team. Griffey is running the sprint races for the Cougars.

Lionel Orji — Orji, a Thomas Jefferson grad is competing on the Central Washington University track team. He competes in the throws and sprints.
