Cross Country

• Meron Simon — The 2011 Federal Way grad is competing in his sophomore season at the University of Washington. Last year, Simon was one of three freshmen to suit up for the Huskies and earned a spot in his first Pac-12 Championship race, placing 67th in Arizona in a time of 25:28. He also finished 20th at the Pac-12 Championships in the 1,500 meters during the spring track season.

• Leah Kiyohara — The Thomas Jefferson grad is running her freshman season at the University of Louisville. Kiyohara clocked a personal-best time of 19:16.76 at the Winthrop Invitational recently in South Carolina in the 5K. Kiyohara was the Cardinals’ No. 2 runner and Louisville finished in 11th-place overall. Kiyohara was 45th overall in the race.

• Monica Jaenicke — The 2010 Thomas Jefferson grad is competing on the 2012 Eastern Washington University cross country team. The junior at EWU recently ran at the 2012 Sundodger Invitational in Seattle and finished fourth out of the top-seven for Eastern in the 6-kilometer race. After earning a freshman varsity letter at Eastern in 2010, she redshirted in 2011. As a senior at Jefferson, Jaenicke finished in 24th-place overall at the 2009 State Cross Country Championships.

• Taylor Kartes — The Beamer grad is running at Central Washington University. Kartes is a junior for the Wildcats and finished 19th overall at the season-opening 2012 CWU Cross County Invitational on Sept. 7 in a time of in a time of 17:01 over the 4-kilometer course in Ellensburg.

• Ryan Eidsmoe — The Beamer graduate is running his senior season at Central Washington. Eidsmoe finished in 13th place overall at the 2012 CWU Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 7 in a time of 21:03 over the 6-kilometer course.

• Tori Zellerhoff — The 2012 Decatur grad is running at the University of Portland. Zellerhoff finished in 49th place at the West Coast Conference Preview on Sept. 15 in Portland in a time of 22:57.06. “Tori is a great athlete who has done a number of different events, but I think she will really benefit from focusing on distance running,” said head coach Ian Solof. “She has a lot of potential to improve quickly and dramatically.”

Volleyball

• Megan Stumpf — The 2012 Todd Beamer graduate is playing her freshman season at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Rams are currently 12-1 on the season and Stumpf has yet to play.

The 6-foot-4 middle blocker was a terror in the South Puget Sound League for the Titans. Stumpf was voted the SPSL South’s Blocker of the Year for a team that finished out of the playoff hunt in one of the best volleyball league’s in the state.

“She’s a really strong kid that is also very versatile,” said VCU head coach James Finley. “She’s got a block and good shot selection. She hits really well around the block. She’s also a very mature kid.”
