Central Washington University senior shortstop Brady Kincannon has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending March 4, the conference office announced Monday.
Kincannon, a Decatur High School graduate, totaled five hits in eight at bats in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Whitworth University on Sunday. Included among those five hits were four for extra bases, as the Wildcats (4-8) accumulated 13 extra-base hits in the doubleheader. Kincannon’s five hits were in consecutive at-bats, as he doubled in each of his final three at bats in the 10-7 game one victory, and got a single and a triple in his first two at-bats of CWU’s 9-7 win in game two. He also scored three runs and drove in three during the twinbill.
The Wildcats will next open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play as they host Saint Martin’s University on March 17 at 1 p.m.
Other district graduates playing in college:
Jeff Brigham — The Thomas Jefferson grad is playing his sophomore season at the University of Washington. The right-handed pitcher has yet to appear in a game for the 9-3 Huskies.
Brigham appeared in 23 games last year as a true freshman and was 4-1 with a 4.73 ERA in 51.1 innings.
Kenny Johnson — The Todd Beamer grad is playing infield at Linfield College in Oregon. Last year, as a freshman, he played 18 games. This year, the switch hitter has started six games and is hitting .292 with five runs and seven RBIs. Linfield is 7-3 on the season.
Alex Bailey — The Decatur grad is playing his junior season at Western Oregon. The left-handed pitcher has appeared in three games for the 11-6 Wolves this year and has a 4.15 ERA. He has struck out seven and walked nine in 4.1 innings.
Travis Crumb — The Beamer grad is playing his sophomore season at Jamestown College in North Dakota. The outfielder transferred from Tacoma Community College. Crumb has yet to play this season for the 6-2 Jimmies.
Brock Gates — The Decatur grad is playing his senior year at Pacific Lutheran University. Gates is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound first baseman. He has started all 12 games and is hitting a robust .446 with six doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs. PLU is 7-5 on the season.
Last year, Gates hit .333 with four home runs and 28 RBIs and was a first-team, All-NWC first baseman.
Shane Elliot — The Federal Way grad is playing outfield at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The team is 10-6 on the season.
Jarett Hardy — The Thomas Jefferson grad transferred to Oklahoma Wesleyan from Pierce College. The first baseman is playing his junior year in Oklahoma.
Brian Corliss, TJ Horsfall, Elliot Morris, Austin Weber — The foursome are all playing at Pierce College. Corliss is a sophomore from Todd Beamer and Horsfall, Morris and Weber are all Federal Way grads.
Corliss, an infielder/pitcher, will continue his career at Lewis-Clark State in Idaho in the fall. Last year, he was named as a first-team, All-NWAACC selection. Also, the American Baseball Coaches Association released their selections for the 2011 Pacific Association Division All-American Team and Corliss became the first Raider in the program’s history to be named as a first-team All-American by the ABCA. Corliss was one of four infielders to be so honored. The ABCA’s selections recognizes the top two-year players in Washington, Oregon and California.
Drew Staples — The Jefferson grad is playing his junior year at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville after two years at Pierce College. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound left-handed pitcher has appeared in five games this season and has a 7.71 ERA in 9.1 innings. SIUE is 6-5 on the season.
Derek Voigt — The TJ grad is playing at Peru State College in Nebraska. The infielder is hitting .469 with eight runs, four doubles and 10 RBIs for the Bobcats. The team is 10-2 on the season.
Nick Tanielu — The Federal Way grad is playing his freshman year at Washington State after a stellar high school career. The third baseman has yet to play for the Cougars. Tanielu was a four-time, All-SPSL selection and set the Federal Way home run and RBI records as a sophomore.
Mitch McQueen — The Thomas Jefferson grad is a redshirt freshman at Washington State. The right-handed pitcher has made one appearance for the Cougars, throwing one inning and giving up two runs.
