District track and field athletes picked up a good amount of hardware at the two-day South Puget Sound League Meet.

The Federal Way Eagles snared six individual titles, which included two each from Meron Simon, Jasmine Johnson and Jaleecia Roland at French Field.

Simon clocked the fastest Class 4A time in the state in the boys 1,600 (4:14.69). The University of Washington-bound senior cut more than 2 seconds off his previous best time in the race and also won the 3,200 in a time of 4:14.69. Jefferson’s Chase Braxmeyer finished third in the race (9:29.26).

Simon also helped the Eagle 4×400 relay win the event in a time of 3:24.64 minutes after winning the mile race.

Roland, who is also set to compete for the University of Washington, took home gold medals in the 100-meter high hurdles (15.54) and the high jump with a leap of 5-foot-3. Roland finished third at the state meet as a junior in the high jump with a school-record leap of 5-4.

Johnson swept the 400 and 800 meters during the SPSL Meet. The senior outdistanced Kent-Meridian’s Stephanie O’Hara in the 400 in a time of 59.65 and dominated the 800 in 2:16.78. She won the race by over 4 seconds.

Jefferson’s three individual titles came from Kayla Adams in the shot put, Lindsey Dahl in the javelin and Aaron Jeong in the 100 meters.

Adams, who won the 2009 state title in the shot put, threw 43-8 3/4 to easily win. Adams also finished second in the discus behind Kentwood’s Alyx Toeaina with a throw of 121-5.

Dahl’s throw of 107-1 in the javelin was 4-feet better than Tahoma’s Savanna Haverfield and Jeong ran a 10.87 in the 100 meters, outleaning Curtis’ Jamiel Lowery (10.93) and Kentwood’s BJ Arceneaux (10.94).

The top 10 finishers in each event move on to next week’s bi-district meet, which will be at Mount Tahoma Stadium. The top eight from the district meet qualify for state.

3A Sub-district meet

The Decatur Gators got two individual titles during the Class 3A Sub-District Meet at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Drew Thompson took home the high jump championship with a leap of 6-2 on the boys’ side and Sydnee Patin won the girls pole vault with a jump of 9-0. Thompson also finished third in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.69.

Patin’s teammate, Anna Paradee, ended up second in the event. Paradee also cleared 9-0, but had more misses than Patin. She also finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.54) and was also seventh in the 300 hurdles (52.71).

Junior Tori Zellerhoff finished second in the 1,600 in a time of 5:22.62.
