The Todd Beamer girls wrestling team recently won the 43rd annual Rogers Holiday Tournament, edging out host Rogers.
The Titans sent five to the finals, including seniors Arian Carpio and Vanessa Dixon, junior Hailie Parker and freshman Kyaira Fulton Serena Doyle.
“Arian Carpio is a two-time state champion and she took first and was a standout wrestler,” said Jay Cardwell, Titans coach.
Carpio also earned the Wrestler of the Meet award for the tournament.
“Coaches nominate them during the tournament and then the nominees get voted on,” Cardwell explained.”Arian’s an outstanding wrestler, is highly skilled and displayed great sportsmanship all day long.”
Carpio weighs 135 pounds and placed first, Dixon weighs 190 pounds and placed first, Parker is 235 pounds and placed first, Fulton is 100 pounds and placed second and Doyle is 120 pounds and placed second.
“It was exciting to watch and I was happy with the way the girls wrestled,” Cardwell said. “Our new wrestlers caught on quickly and did well and we have some great new senior leadership.”
Other standout wrestlers were senior Natalie Hoss and junior Kasandra Handke, who placed third. The Titans completed a week where they had dual meet wins over Rogers, Fife, Graham-Kapowsin and Thomas Jefferson.
“Our goals this year are to continue to improve and come together as a team,” Cardwell said. “Girls wrestling is still emerging a little bit, so we plan to set weekly goals as well.”
The Todd Beamer team is coached this year by Cardwell and two assistant coaches, Whitney Buck and Brett Dykman.
