Thomas Jefferson High School participated in six different events at the 2022 state championships Nov. 10-12 at the King County Aquatic Center. TJ was the only Federal Way high school to have representation at the hometown event.
The Raiders were in seven heats in six events, with no divers. TJ’s top finish was in the first event of the competition, the 200-yard medley relay. In the relay, the Raiders finished 13th (1:55.21), outperforming their state qualifying time by three entire seconds (1:58.14). The best individual performance was from junior Emma Calin, who finished in 16th place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
This year, the Raiders ended the drought, finally getting points at the state tournament and coming in 29th place. It was TJ’s first ever points at the state tournament since 2012, and in that season, they were 26th at the 4A classification.
