Darah Huertas-Vining, Federal Way

The 5-foot-2 point guard had an amazing four-year career at Federal Way. Huertas-Vining played in four state tournaments and brought home three trophies, including a second- and a third-place trophy.

All she did was win, while putting up impressive numbers. During her four years running the point at Federal Way, the Eagles were a combined 93-23.

Huertas-Vining is a three-time first-team, All-SPSL selection and the division’s Player of the Year as a senior. During her career, she scored 1,431 points during her career. She has also led the SPSL in assists for three seasons.

This year, Huertas-Vining averaged a team-best 15.7 points a game. She poured in 13.3 last season, 14.6 points as a sophomore and tallied 8.2 points a game during an impressive freshman year.

It’s still up in the air where Huertas-Vining will play college basketball next season.

“Ever since she was 3, she had a basketball in her hand,” said her mother, Shannon. “We had a little basketball hoop in the backyard and she would just dribble and shoot. Even the little boys were like, ‘we want her on our team.’ She was better than all the boys.”

Raven Benton, Federal Way

The senior was the Eagles’ best all-around player. The 5-foot-9 Benton routinely brought the ball up the court as the point guard and was also Federal Way’s leading rebounder down low.

Benton was also the only player on the Eagles’ roster to play in all 28 of their games and helped Federal Way win the South Puget Sound League South Division title with a 15-1 record. Federal Way finished 22-6 on the season.

Benton was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection for the second year in a row after averaging 15.2 points a game. She scored in double figures in all but three games during the season and had a season-high 26 during a win over Union in the opening round of the West Central District Tournament.

Jada Piper, Jefferson

The junior led the Raiders into the postseason for the first time since 2009.

The 5-foot-11 guard was a first-team, All-SPSL North selection and helped TJ win a three-team playoff for the fifth and final seed from the division into the SPSL Tournament. Jefferson finished 10-14 on the season and 6-10 in the SPSL North. But the Raiders won their final four regular season games to qualify.

Piper averaged a team-best 13.8 points and scored over 20 points five times during the season. She had a season-best 22 during separate wins over Auburn and Tahoma.

A’yesia Rogers, Decatur

The Gator senior was a huge bright spot this season. The 5-foot-9 forward led Decatur to an 8-13 record, including three wins in the SPSL 3A Division.

Rogers was a first-team, All-SPSL 3A selection by the league’s coaches after averaging 16.5 points a game. Rogers tallied double-digit points in all but two of the Gators’ games this year.

She scored a season-best 25 points in the Gators’ opener against Fife on Dec. 2. Rogers actually started the season by scoring 20 or more points in six of Decatur’s first eight games. During a loss to Spanaway Lake, Rogers had 24 of the Gators’ 36 points.

Megan Huff, Beamer

The 6-foot-2 sophomore is already drawing interest from some of the better college basketball programs in the West. Huff played in only 15 games this season, but averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots a game and was also a first-team, All-SPSL South Division selection by the league’s coaches.

Hugg tallied a season-high 25 points during a loss to Kentridge. She also had 23 points three other times during the season.

Huff suffered a broken thumb during the Titans’ season-opening win over Jefferson and missed a handful of games in early December.

“She’s just smooth,” said Beamer head coach Heather Sugg. “She knows the game. She loves playing and loves coming to practice every day.”

Honorable Mention

Christy Kullberg, Jefferson

The senior guard was second on the Raiders in scoring at 8.9 points a game and was an honorable mention, All-SPSL North selection. She had a season high 23 points during a win over Decatur on Dec. 16.

Dyesha Belhumeur, Federal Way

The 5-foot-7 wing was one of the more athletic players in the SPSL this season and was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection. Belhumeur averaged 10.4 points a game and helped the Eagles win the SPSL title.

Meghan Graf, Beamer

The 6-footer was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection after a stellar senior season. Graf was second on the Titans after scoring 14.1 points a game. She scored 20 or more points five times.
