Todd Beamer senior Broc Johnson ended a very successful high school golf career Wednesday with an impressive second-place finish at the Class 4A State Boys Golf Championships.

Johnson fired a two-day total of 141 at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course in the Tri-Cities. Bellarmine Prep’s James Feutz won the individual title by shooting a pair of 3-under par 69’s at Canyon Lakes. Kentridge’s Sean McMullen also finished with a two-day total of 141.

Johnson shot a 70 on the first day of competition and trailed Feutz and Woodinville’s Jarrett Foote by just one stroke entering Wednesday’s second round. He followed with a 71 to finish three strokes back of Feutz.

It was Johnson’s second runner-up finish at the state tournament. He opened the eyes of the high school golf world during the 2008 postseason, when he also finished in second place at the Class 4A State Boys Golf Championships. Last year, as a junior, Johnson ended up in 11th place at state.

Johnson led a group of five Federal Way School District boys at the 2010 Class 4A state tournament. Jefferson’s Erik Jarvey was the only other district golfer to make the cut after the first day of competition at Canyon Lakes. Jarvey ended up in 35th place with a two-day total of 160. he shot a 79 Tuesday and followed with an 81 Wednesday.

Spokane’s Lewis and Clark won the Class 4A team title with 88 points to edge out Bellarmine Prep (80.5).

Missing the cut were Beamer’s Quinn Milligan (80), Campbell Flewelling (85) and Michael Manolides (90).

On the girls’ side, Decatur’s Amanda Beyke was also impressive. The Gator sophomore ended up in sixth place overall with a two-day total of 145. Beyke fired an opening-round 74 at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Lewis and Clark’s Chessey Thomas won the individual state championship with a 138 total.

Beyke’s teammate, junior Stacy Blunt, finished up in 13th place overall by following up a first-round 80 with an impressive 74 on Wednesday.

Beyke and Blunt helped the Gators take home a team trophy from the Tri-Cities. Decatur ended up in sixth place overall with 62.5 points. Bellarmine won the Class 4A title with 85.5 points.

Jefferson’s Alexus Song was the only other Federal Way school district golfer to make the cut. Song finished in 15th place by firing rounds of 77 and 78 at Sun Willows.

Decatur’s Samantha Zeeb (89), Federal Way’s Emily Victor (92) and Jefferson’s Sarah Yu all missed the cut after the first round.
