The Seattle Mist, a team of the Lingerie Football League, is having a training camp at Kent’s ShoWare Center this month, culminating in a media day July 15 with a 7-on-7, full-contact team scrimmage. The scrimmage is a final test for many players as they try to make the 2009/2010 Seattle Mist roster.
A form of adult entertainment where women athletes play full-contact football in pads and lingerie, the Lingerie Football League has developed franchises across the country. The Seattle Mist, which will call the ShoWare Center home in its first-ever season, will have its opener Sept. 11 in Kent, versus the San Diego Seduction.
The Mist will play one other game at the ShoWare Center for their season: on Jan. 1, against the Dallas Desire.
Their two other games are away: Oct. 9 against the Denver Dream; and Nov. 27 versus the Los Angeles Temptation.

Fans also can will be able to watch LFL Friday Night Football action in 1080i high-definition on KMYQ (MyNetwork Television) Channel 22, 10 & 110.

• The Federal Way United Soccer Club is offering three camps for youth players this month, including a goalkeeping camp, speed, agility and soccer skills and a mod soccer camp.
The goalkeeping camp will cover basic to complex goalkeeping skills. This camp is for both the experienced and the novice goal keeper who desire to improve on his/her skills. The goalkeeper camp is $100 per player and will occur from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Saghalie Middle School July 20 to 23. The camp is for players ages 10 and older. Campers will have the opportunity to work with Rob Walker, who has been on the both the US Men’s and Women’s Olympic staff in the past.
Speed, agility and soccer skills camp is geared to players 10 and older. The camp will emphasize the mechanics of movement with challenging activities that will be blended with soccer skill work. Each session will feature a dynamic warm-up, a speed and agility component and skill activities and games. The camp will occur from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Saghalie July 20 to 23. The registration fee of $85.
The mod soccer camp is for players 6 to 9 years old. Sessions will focus on dribbling, passing, control and shooting. Players will work on technical and tactical development through small and mid-sized games. The registration fee is $85 per player. The camp will occur from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Saghalie on July 27–30.

• The Decatur High School girls soccer team is conducting two camps for boys and girls from 5 to 13 years old. The camps will run from Aug. 10 to 14 at the Decatur High School soccer field.
The Gator Soccer Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is for boys and girls from 7 to 13. The camp is $100 per player or $85 if you mention the Federal Way Mirror when registering. Each camper will also receive a soccer ball and camp T-shirt.
The camp will include teaching of skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, heading and tackling and will also include organized games, skill competitions, scrimmages, sessions on nutrition and fitness, video clips and more.
The Little Gators camp for boys and girls 5 to 8 years old will run from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 10-14 at Decatur. The camp will focus on fun and fundamentals and campers will receive a soccer ball and T-shirt. The cost is $85 or $60 if you mention the Federal Way Mirror when registering.

• The Federal Way SLAM! fastpitch softball team will be holding tryouts on Aug. 3 and Aug. 8 for the 2010 14-and-under team. The SLAM! is a year-round select softball team that finished third in the USSSA state championships this year. Overall, the team produced a 48-14-1 record, won five tournaments and never finished worse than fourth in a tournament in 2009. The team will play a few fall tournaments and then practice indoors in Federal Way until the sun comes back out in March/April 2010. The team has a great core group of girls returning and a positive coaching philosophy that is unmatched in fastpitch softball.
