Decatur High School graduate Chris Corey was named the recipient of the Charles Lappenbusch Memorial Coaches Award at the Western Washington University football team’s Awards Banquet Sunday. Corey is a senior offensive tackle for the Vikings.
Western is 5-5 overall, placing second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 5-3, and will play Colorado Mines in the Dixie Rotary Bowl at noon on Saturday in St. George, Utah.
• Federal Way High School graduate Morris Anderson had 17 points and 13 assists as Western Washington University men’s basketball team beat Northwest University, 96-76, in a non-conference game Saturday in Bellingham. Anderson’s 13 assists were the most for a Viking in a single game since Dec. 2, 1989, when Manny Kimmie had 15 in a 116-56 triumph over Northwest. Anderson also had five steals. Western is 6-0 on the season.
• Apple Physical Therapy will honor one boy and one girl student athlete for the Winter sport seasons with a $1,000 Athlete of the Quarter Scholarship.
