The Seattle Sounders Women came up short during a national semifinal match Friday against the Ottawa Fury, 3-2.

The Sounders Women fell behind 3-0 at the Starfire Sports Complex Stadium in Tukwila, but fought back with two goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest, including a goal in the 82nd minute by Federal Way High School graduate Justi Baumgardt-Yamada.

The Sounders Women, along with the Atlanta Silverbacks, Vancouver Whitecaps and Fury, played in the United Soccer Leagues W-League’s Final Four. Atlanta eventually beat Ottawa in the championship, 6-1.

The Sounders’ roster included three players with ties to Federal Way, including the best female soccer player to ever take the field in the city — 37-year-old Baumgardt-Yamada. The Sounders also featured current Oregon State midfielder Megan Miller and Seattle University defender Jordan Salisbury. Both Miller and Salisbury are graduates of Todd Beamer High School.

Baumgardt-Yamada and Salisbury both played all 90 minutes Friday and Miller started and played 60 in the midfield.

The team was coached by Federal Way High School grad Leighton O’Brien, a former United Soccer Leagues (USL) MVP with the Seattle Sounders. O’Brien played 10 years of professional soccer and also has coached youth teams since 2002 and been the Director of Coaching for Greater Renton FC since 2006.
