Sophomore C.J. Andrus from the Southern Virginia University baseball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Andrus is a Decatur High School graduate.

“C.J. [Andrus] is very deserving of this award,” said fourth-year head coach Logan Mann. “He’s had a great year on the diamond and has done an excellent job in the classroom.”

The all-district teams are divided into eight districts and are separated by NCAA Divisions I, II, III and College Division — including NAIA, two-year and independent institutions. To be recognized, a player must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and serve as a key contributor to the team.

Andrus was selected as a representative of District One, comprised of colleges and universities from 16 different states ranging from Maine to North Carolina. He will be up for consideration to the Capital One Academic All-American Team to be announced later this month.

In addition to his stellar academic record, the second baseman had a solid season for Southern Virginia. Andrus, who is majoring in biology, hit .316 with 18 runs scored, 11 RBIs and three stolen bases. The team finished 18-16 on the season.
