The National Speedskating Circuit (NSC) presents the Pro NSC event “Tribulation 4” at 6:30 p.m. at Pattison’s West Skating Center in Federal Way on Thursday, July 29. Founder Miguel Jose created the event with the mission to bring indoor short track racing to more of a mainstream audience. Tickets are $12 if bought before the event or $15 at the door.
“Everyone who watches the Olympics seeʼs coverage of these guys and how almost all of them came from inline skating,” said Jose, who hails from Federal Way. “Both JR Celski and Apollo (Ohno) came out of this very rink here in Federal Way. Now weʼre hosting an event that gives the athletes a place to showcase their talents. And the fans absolutely love it.”
This marks the first year of the NSC as the program has been in beta-testing at the Federal Way skating center since January. Attendance has been growing every event with plenty of entertainment for the fans, including hip-hop dancers, roller derby girls, local stunt performing athletes and Celski, have been on hand to add to the intense night of racing.
The NSC brings in the top athletes (by invitation only) to compete in a night of exciting indoor short-track, inline speedskating. These athletes are national and world champions with a few up and comers added to the mix. They compete for money under a tightly run schedule that is easy and exciting to watch for those new to the sport or the seasoned fan.
The July 29 race day will begin that afternoon with a pre-race event in the Pattisonʼs skating center parking lot with exotic cars, roller-girls, a DJ and the pro athletes of the evening on hand to sign autographs and meet fans. Inside the venue fans can enjoy the races from a beer garden or general spectating. Kids under 6 are free.
