Softball: Tahoma outlasts Jefferson in first-place showdown in Maple Valley

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders came up short in the showdown for the top spot in the South Puget Sound League North Division Thursday when the Tahoma Bears beat them 4-3 in Maple Valley.

The win kept the Bears unbeaten in league at 9-0 and the loss dropped TJ to 7-2 in the North and 9-3 overall. Tahoma tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 3-2 Raider lead. Sammii Jimenez got the big hit during the inning for the Bears, connecting on a two-run double. Jiminez also picked up the win on the mound for the Bears.

Jefferson took a quick 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first when senior Hannah Kiyohara crossed the plate, but Tahoma took the lead back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run from Shelby Carter.

The Raiders had only seven hits against Jimenez, including two by Allie Crowe. Kiyohara finished 1 for 4 with two runs and a double.

Katie Jackson took the loss on the mound for the Raiders, giving up just six hits.

In other softball action:

• The Todd Beamer Titans (5-4 overall, 5-3 SPSL South) picked up a huge win over the Emerald Ridge Jaguars Friday afternoon, 2-0. Sophomore Emma Blauser threw the complete-game, shutout. She struck out seven, walked one and gave up just five hits to Emerald Ridge.

Offensively, Blauser helped her own cause by finishing 2 for 3 with a double and RBI. Halle Colson tallied the Titans’ other run with a solo home run. Senior centerfielder Sarah Petosa finished 1 for 2 with a pair of stolen bases.

• The Decatur Gators (3-9 overall, 2-6 SPSL South) were nipped by the Bethel Braves Friday in Graham, 4-3. The Braves tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 3-2 Decatur lead.

The Gators scored to runs of their own in the top of the sixth. Lindsey Dickinson finished with a double and RBI for Decatur.
