SOCCER: TJ’s Prado-Huerta named Class 4A Most Valuable Player

Thomas Jefferson senior midfielder Isidro Prado-Huerta was named the Class 4A Most Valuable Player by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association. Prado-Huerta had a huge season for the state-champion Raiders.

The honor comes after Prado-Huerta was named the Player of the Year in the South Puget Sound League North Division, All-City by the Mirror and All-Area by both The News Tribune and Seattle Times.

He finished his final season for the Raiders with 14 goals and 16 assists and had five multi-goal games and five multi-assist games. His best game came against Kentlake on April 27 when he had two goals and three assists.

Prado-Huerta chose to not play for the Seattle Sounders FC Academy this season to concentrate on his grades and play with his TJ teammates, something that paid off with the 4A state title.

Prado-Huerta will play soccer in the fall at Highline Community College.

But Prado-Huerta wasn’t the only Federal Way school district soccer player named to the WSSCA All-State Team. Jefferson’s Brandon Madsen and Glenn Carpenter and Federal Way’s Alex Lewis were named 4A first-teamers. Federal Way’s Odasson Pelogi, Edwin Ortiz and Garrett Brewer, along with TJ’s Matthew Cruz were named to the second-team and TJ’s Luis Alvaro Osornio and Paul Andrew McCleary were named honorable mention.

Madsen was the leading scorer for Raiders. Madsen finished the season with 20 goals and five assists and scored at least one goal in all six of Jefferson’s postseason games, including the game-winner during a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Inglemoor. Carpenter, a defender, was the rock on the back line for the Raiders. Carpenter was a big reason why Jefferson finished with 12 shutouts during the season. He also ended up with two goals and one assist.

Lewis was the Player of the Year in the SPSL South Division after another impressive season for the Eagles. Lewis finished with an amazing 17 assists during Federal Way’s 18 games and also contributed eight goals. Lewis had four multi-assist games, including four assists during a win over Bethel.

Pelogi finished with 12 goals and 11 assists for Federal Way and Ortiz led the Eagles with 17 goals during the season and helped Federal Way to a 16-2-0 record and the SPSL South title. Brewer finished with six goals and four assists from his defensive position and Cruz finished the year with six goals and seven assists.

Osornio ended up with 15 goals and dished out eight assists and McCleary, a sophomore defender, finished with one goal and helped TJ pitch 12 shutouts.
