The Todd Beamer Titans got a little help from an unlikely source to move into first place all by themselves atop the South Puget Sound League South Division.
The Titans (7-1-2) played to a 1-1 tie against the Emerald Ridge Jaguars Saturday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium, but the Decatur Gators beat Puyallup, 4-2, on the same field Saturday. Beamer and Puyallup (6-2-1) were tied atop the SPSL South entering the action.
Against Emerald Ridge, the Titans took the lead in the 58th minute on a goal by Michael Manolides on a pass from Austin Sweeney. But the Jaguars (5-1-4) tied the game back up in the 76th minute on a goal from Jakob Smith.
The tie against Emerald Ridge followed a 2-0 shutout of Rogers on Thursday night by Beamer. Troy Peterson got the scoring going with a goal in the 15th minute on a pass from Ike Crook. Ian Lange made it 2-0 five minutes after halftime on a pass from Sweeney. Ben Draeger picked up the shutout in goal for the Titans.
In other soccer action:
• The Decatur Gators got an impressive victory over the first-place Puyallup Vikings Saturday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium 4-2. The win improved Decatur to 6-2-1 in the SPSL South.
The Gators got a pair of goals from Michael Klavuhn, including the game-winner in the 55th minute that broke a 2-2 tie. Decatur also got single goals from Dominique Dismuke and Jacob Jones.
• The Thomas Jefferson Raiders moved one point back of first-place Auburn Riverside in the SPSL North standings with a 1-0 win over Auburn Saturday. The victory improved TJ to 6-3-1 on the season. Auburn Riverside is 6-1-2.
The Raiders got the only goal of the game from Isidro Prado-Huerta in the 71st minute to break a scoreless tie. Adam Duke picked up the shutout in net.
• Auburn Riverside shut out the Federal Way Eagles Friday night, 1-0. The only goal of the game came in the 29th minute from Adam Zeman. The loss drops the Eagles to 3-4-3.
