Federal Way’s Kadie Brown will join one of the most dominant crew teams in the United States in the fall. Brown recently signed a full-ride scholarship to row at the University of Washington.

Brown currently attends Annie Wright School in Tacoma and trains with the Commencement Bay Rowing Club in Lakewood. Brown officially signed her national letter of intent Monday at Annie Wright.

Brown has established herself as one of the best young rowers in the world.

She combined with Florida’s Christine Cavallo during the summer to row the United States’ junior women’s pair to a historic second-place finish at the 2012 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

No other American women’s junior pair had ever medaled in the event before Brown and Cavallo, and the highest-ever finish in the event was sixth.

“That was the most amazing experience of my life,” Brown said in Bulgaria. “I am so honored to be here right now.”

Last spring, the University of Washington varsity eight finished up in seventh place in the overall standings at the NCAA Championships. The Huskies’ men’s team has won the last two national titles.

Brown also won the United States Rowing Youth National Championship in the four-plus (four rowers and a coxswain) with the Commencement Bay Rowing Club on June 10 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
