Prep wrap up: Beamer soccer remains in first place with another shutout; TJ swims past Titans

The first-place Todd Beamer Titans’ girls soccer team continued to play smothering defense and shut out Graham-Kapowsin Thursday, 6-0.

The win moved the Titans to 7-0-3 in the South Puget Sound League South Division and four points ahead of second-place Curtis.

Beamer got a pair of goals from Jasmine Brilliante and single goals from Breanna Straus, Taylor Miller, Jenny Hoefel and Denali Pavlich-Wheeler. Goalkeeper Meghan Graf picked up her seventh shutout of the season. The Titan defense has allowed only two goals during their 10 matches.

Decatur remained in second place in the SPSL 3A with a 9-1 win over Lakes Thursday. The Gators (3-1-0, 6-3-0) got two goals from Abby McFaul and single goals from Rachel Neira, Ashley Graves, Taylor Meadows, Hannah Herbert, Ellie Franco, Maddie Theiss and Victoria Braun.

Federal Way (4-3-2) remained in the thick of the SPSL South playoff race with a 6-1 win over Spanaway Lake Thursday. The Eagles got a hat trick from Haley Ward, two goals from Sydney Slaggs and one from Jessica Evenson.

Jefferson (5-3-2) picked up a big win over Kentridge Thursday, 2-1. Junior Lindsey Dahl continued her impressive season with both of the Raiders’ goals. Dahl has 15 goals in TJ’s 10 matches this year.

Girls Swimming

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders outlasted Beamer Thursday in a very competitive SPSL dual meet at the King County Aquatic Center. The Raiders won all three relays and also got a pair of individual wins from Amber Cratsenberg in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.00) and 500 free (5:13.65). Jefferson’s Madi Kellar also won diving.

Beamer got double wins from Rachel Kim in the 200 individual medley (2:10.03) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.10) and Taylor Wintler in the 100 backstroke (1:08.23) and 50 free (27.07).

Boys Tennis

Things went pretty much according to plan during the opening round of the South Puget Sound League Central Division Tournament Friday at Auburn Riverside. The second and third rounds of the tournament were rained out Saturday and rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Auburn and Kent-Meridian high schools.

Division champion Jefferson leads the six-team tournament, followed in second place by Auburn and Auburn Riverside. Federal Way sits in fourth place and Beamer is fifth. The top-10 finishers in the SPSL Tournament in both the doubles’ and singles’ competition will advance to the West Central District Tournament, which will be played in the spring.

Jefferson got first-round wins from Vivek Ramanujan, Russell Stelzer and Tyler Hamashima in singles’ action and James Lee and Richard Ban in doubles’ action.

Federal Way’s wins came from Alex Lewis in singles and Ben Blackner and Evans in doubles. Beamer got a first-round win from Ryan Wolfe in singles’ action.

Volleyball

The Decatur Gators fell to 1-4 in the SPSL 3A with a loss to Auburn Mountainview Thursday, 25-5, 25-13, 26-24. The Gators got five kills from Audri Mooth and three aces from Christina Sessoms.

The third-ranked Class 1B Christian Faith Eagles swept Darrington Saturday in a non-league match at the EX-3 Center in Federal Way, 25-12, 25-17, 26-24, to remain unbeaten. Darrington entered the match as the third-ranked team in Class 2B.

Christian Faith got 11 kills, six digs, two assists and one block from junior Kendra Iregbe and the returning SeaTac League Most Valuable Player, Amanda Tofaeono, finished with 14 assists, three kills and one ace.
