The Todd Beamer girls soccer team has been the class of the South Puget Sound League South Division for a long time. And this year should be no different.
The Titans (3-0-0) remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win over cross-town rival Federal Way (1-1-0) Tuesday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. Beamer tallied both of their goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest to break a scoreless battle.
Breanna Straus struck first in the 70th minute on a pass from Janell Carlson and freshman Kristen Falecki iced the game in the 77th minute on a pass from Jenny Hoefel. Meghan Graf picked up the shutout in net.
The Titans return nine seniors from a team that finished unbeaten in the SPSL South and a program that has won three of the last four league titles.
“We have nine seniors who have played in the program since freshman year,” said head coach Joel Lindberg. “They are a close group of friends and are fired up about making this a great season.”
Leading the list of returners is Straus. The striker led Beamer is scoring a season ago with 16 goals and five assists. Hoefel will also add to the offensive firepower. The junior finished with eight goals and six assists last year and has already scored three times this season.
Also returning are midfielders Lindsey Richou, Jasmine Brilliante, Denali Pavlich-Wheeler, Carlson and Jenna Floyd. Leading the Titan defense are Graf in goal and Autumn Talney, who was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection in 2010. Also helping in the back line will be the return of Sydney Rogalla, who sat our most of last year with a knee injury.
“She is back and strong,” Lindberg said about Rogalla.
Golf
The Decatur girls were more than impressive Tuesday with a 149-119 win over Enumclaw at Twin Lakes. The Hornets finished fourth at the Class 3A state tournament last season.
Decatur senior Amanda Beyke led the way with a impressive 2-under par, 34 at Twin Lakes. She was followed by her sister, Celia Beyke, with a 42. Darrian Keuter finished with a 47 for the Gators.
On the boys’ side, Enumclaw outdistanced Decatur, 77-72, at the Enumclaw Golf Course. Spencer Clapp and Carsten Olufson led the way for the Gators.
On Monday, the Decatur boys beat Lakes, 67-40. Olufson earned medalist honors with a 39 at Twin Lakes.
Jefferson
The TJ boys downed Auburn Tuesday at Riverbend, 62-46. State tournament veteran A.J. Seo earned medalist honors with a 39.
Federal Way
The Eagle girls snuck by Curtis Tuesday at Northshore, 29-28. Federal Way’s Emily Victor had the low round with a 49.
Beamer
Amanda Imm shot a 44 at Sumner Meadows Tuesday during a 63-61 win over Auburn Riverside.
Boys tennis
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders remained unbeaten in the South Puget Sound League Central Division with a 4-1 win over Federal Way Tuesday.
The Raiders got straight-set wins from Vivek Ramanujan at No. 2 singles, Alex Lee and James Lee at No. 1 doubles, Russell Stelzer and Cameron Martin at No. 2 and Richard Ban and Tyler Hamashima at No. 3.
Federal Way’s lone win came from Mitch Stewart at No. 1 singles over Kainoa Rosa, 6-0, 6-0.
Decatur
The Gators dropped a pair of SPSL 3A matches earlier this week to Lakes on Monday, 3-2, and Auburn Mountainview Wednesday, 4-1.
Decatur’s wins against Lakes came from Steve Kang at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3, and Colby Brotherton and Caleb Ramsey at No. 3 doubles, 2-6, 6-0, 11-9. Brotherton and Ramsey won the lone match against Auburn Mountainview, 6-3, 7-6.
Volleyball
The Tahoma Bears needed four games to get by the Beamer Titans in a non-league contest Tuesday, 25-21, 25-13, 24-26, 25-20. The Titans picked up 10 kills from Lexi Jones, 30 assists and three aces from Sophia Miller and 15 digs from Aliya Ranis.
