The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (6-1 overall) picked up a big win over the Auburn Riverside Ravens Wednesday, 3-2. The victory kept the Raiders in a first-place tie with Tahoma in the South Puget Sound League South Division. Both are 4-0 in division play.
The Raiders plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning and another run in the third. Auburn Riverside (1-5) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Katie Jackson picked up the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings and striking out four. Hannah Kiyohara finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Reno Whitcomb was 2 for 2 with a stolen base.
The Todd Beamer Titans (5-2 overall, 3-1 SPSL South) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday to down the Curtis Vikings, 8-7. Curtis took a 7-3 lead with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh.
Emma Blauser picked up the win on the mound for Beamer. The sophomore allowed six hits and struck out four. Jenna Floyd finished 2 for 4 with a double and RBI and Taylor Winton was 2 for 4 with a solo home run.
Baseball
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders continued their early-season dominance Wednesday with a 12-2 thrashing of Auburn Riverside in five innings. The win kept the Raiders unbeaten on the season at 7-0. Jefferson is tied with Kentwood atop the SPSL North Division. Both are 4-0 in division play.
Brett Fitzgerald picked up the victory on the mound by throwing all five innings. Oakley Murphy finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Harold Adams chipped in a solo home run. Mitch McQueen was 3 for 4 with a double.
Beamer (4-3 overall, 2-2 SPSL South) could only muster five hits off Curtis starter Rayne Raven and lost to the Vikings, 4-1, Wednesday. Raven allowed only five hits during the game and three came from Beamer’s Jeff Apigo, who also scored the Titans’ only run.
The Federal Way Eagles won their second game in a row Tuesday over the Kent-Meridian Royals, 7-3. The Royals tallied three runs in the top of the first inning and led 3-0 until Federal Way scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Eagles (4-3 overall, 2-2 SPSL North) got a solid pitching performance from TJ Horsfall and Brett Evans finished 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Elliot Morris contributed a solo home run.
The Decatur Gators were shut out by the Emerald Ridge Jaguars Tuesday, 8-0. Zack Cloe allowed only two hits during the game, while striking out five hitters.
Emerald Ridge tallied single runs in the second and third innings and exploded for six in the bottom of the sixth. The loss dropped Decatur to 0-7 on the season.
Soccer
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders left little doubt who the better team was Tuesday night. The Raiders bombarded Kent-Meridian, 6-0. The win improved TJ to 3-3-0 and ended a three-game losing streak in the SPSL North Division.
The Raiders tallied five second-half goals from Casey Kim, Austin Egerton, Jimmy Oganga, Isidro Prado and Charles Yi. Kim scored TJ’s lone goal in the first half in the 30th minute. Chris Hicks picked up the shutout in goal.
Federal Way High School senior Kelyn Rowe scored a pair of goals and assisted on the other one during the Eagles’ 3-1 win over Kentridge Tuesday night. The win improved Federal Way to 3-1-1 on the season.
Rowe’s first goal came in the 15th minute and was the lone score of the first half. Kentridge tied the score in the 54th minute, but Rowe’s second goal 10 minutes later proved to be the game-winner. Colin Kim tallied the Eagles’ final goal in the 67th minute.
