PREP SPORTS WRAP: TJ girls track team stays unbeaten; Thompson betters school record

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders girls track and field teams remained unbeaten Thursday in the South Puget Sound League Central Division with an 83-45 win over Auburn Riverside.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders girls track and field teams remained unbeaten Thursday in the South Puget Sound League Central Division with an 83-45 win over Auburn Riverside.

The Raiders (3-0) got a pair of wins from Lindsey Dahl in the 300-meter hurdles (48.33) and triple jump (33-11) and Montana Pellegrini in the pole vault (10-0) and discus (93-4). Jefferson’s other victories came from Chevay Warnes in the javelin (89-0), Kaya Warrior in the shot put (34-9), Lindsey Jackson in the 800 (2:32.14) and Cheryl Hong in the 400 (1:01.06).

On the boys’ side, Jefferson (0-3) remained winless with a 99-45 loss to Auburn Riverside.

The Raiders got two victories from Johnny Myles in the 100 (11.94) and triple jump (41-6.5). Jefferson’s only other win came from Thomas Goldingay in the pole vault (11-0).

Decatur — The Gators swept a three-team, non-league meet Thursday at Fife High School. On the boys’ side, Decatur (74 points) outdistanced Fife (67.5) and Foster (38.5).

Decatur’s got three individual wins from Drew Thompson in the 110 hurdles (15.08), high jump (6-6) and pole vault (10-6). The high jump Thursday broke Thompson’s own school record. The senior leapt 6-4 earlier, which broke a 27-year-old Decatur record.

Dalvin Yarbrough won the 200 (23.93) and 400 (53.84), Jordan Wernet won the shot put (43-3) and Jonathan Osborne won the triple jump (36-1).

On the girls’ side, the Gators dominated with 102 points, compared to 55 by Fife and 22 from Foster.

Decatur’s victories came from Desi Kamm in the 200 (26.9) and triple jump (31-5), Ericka Budinich in the long jump (16-8), Sydnee Patin in the pole vault (9-0), Ciara Williams in the discus (84-9), Abby McFaul in the 100 hurdles (18.33), Emma Dash in the 3,200 (13:39.49), Janelta Yates in the 400 (1:02.14) and Sierra Shugarts in the 100 (13.2).

 

BASEBALL

Beamer — University of Washington-bound senior left-hander Matt Bower had his best outing of the year during a 6-0 shutout of Graham-Kapowsin Thursday at home. Bower allowed only four hits, struck out nine and walked only one during his seven innings of work.

Offensively, Beamer (7-5) tallied two runs in the bottom of the first and four in the sixth on eight hits. Richie Apigo finished 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and Daniel Lee was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Federal Way — The Eagles (5-6) were no-hit Thursday by Heath Dempsey and the Rogers Rams during a 3-0 loss.

All three of Rogers’ runs came in the top of the fifth inning off of Federal Way starter Darrien Moran. Moran, a senior left-hander, allowed only two hits and struck out 10. Only one of the three runs by Rogers were earned off Moran.

 

SOFTBALL

Beamer — Fifth-ranked Emerald Ridge tallied two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Titans, 7-6, and stay unbeaten Thursday in SPSL South action.

Emma Blauser finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run and Analee Scott was 1 for 2 with two runs and four stolen bases for Beamer (5-3).

Decatur — The Gators (0-9) remained winless with a 13-2 loss to the Auburn Mountainview Thursday. Decatur finished with three hits.

Federal Way — The Eagles (0-5) were beaten by Spanaway Lake Thursday, 16-1. Federal Way had three hits and committed seven errors.

Singles — Cindy Park, beat Lindsey Tyson, 6-1; 6-4; Michelle Lee, J, beat Kylie Fisher, 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles — Breanna Ziccarelli-Krista Nakamura, beat Jenny Hoefel-Taylor Lunka, 6-2, 6-2; Toni Mullen-Rileigh Qualls, beat Alyssa Tyson-Tori Kaufman, 6-1; 6-1; Coco Hernandez-Tagoe-Gloria Oh, beat Nicole Bowman-Jenifer Tran, 6-0, 7-5.

Jefferson is 5-0 overall; Beamer is 2-3 overall.

Doubles — Lauren Lang/Malia Saboe beat Karen Wentzke/Sydney Johnson (A), 3-6, 7-5, 7-5; Aly Siemion/Gabby Lane (A) beat Mina Park/Sarah Shimer, 6-2, 6-4; Maddy Johnson/Amber Valenzuela beat Rozelle Schwart/Tess Gabert, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).

Federal Way is 0-3 overall.
