The Todd Beamer Titans continued to streak through the South Puget Sound League South Division.
The Titans (6-1-0) won their sixth game in a row after a season-opening loss Friday night over the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles, 6-1. The victory moved Beamer into first place in the SPSL South, two points ahead of second-place Curtis and Rogers (both 5-1-1).
During Friday’s win over Graham-Kapowsin, Beamer sophomore Ugo Okoli notched his first hat trick of the season. Okoli tallied the first three goals of the game to give the Titans a 3-0 lead. Beamer also got a pair of goals from Medhanye Tafere and a single goal from Erik Lissak.
Okoli and sophomore Troy Peterson have been leading the Titans during their run. The sophomores both have tallied a team-high nine goals and Peterson also has a team-high eight assists.
Beamer will get another shot at Rogers, who beat them 1-0 on March 17, Thursday in Puyallup.
Thomas Jefferson moved to 4-1-3 in the SPSL North Friday with a 1-0 win over the Federal Way Eagles (1-5-2). Miguel Toscano tallied the only goal of the game in the 21st minute on a pass from Carson Wright. Adam Duke pitched the shutout in goal for the Raiders. Kentridge and Tahoma are tied atop the North with identical 5-1-2 records.
Girls tennis
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (3-0) remained unbeaten in the SPSL North with a 5-0 shutout of Federal Way Friday afternoon.
The Raiders got wins from Averi Kitsch at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and Mackenzie Qualls, 6-0, 6-0. But it was doubles that proved to be the difference. Jefferson won all three matches in three sets. Vanessa Sariego and Emily Tu beat Amanda Tran and Mina Park at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, and Caroline Min and Krista Nakamura beat Susan Huynh and Lauren Lang at No. 2, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 in the best match of the day. Adair Carterman and Julia Suico beat Jolai Persinger and Dalynn Wingard at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Baseball
Beamer moved to 5-3 in the SPSL South with a 14-6 win over Spanaway Lake Thursday afternoon. Offensively, the Titans got home runs from Kenny Johnson and Carson Wolbert and a pair of doubles from Brian Corliss. Kelvin Ketchum picked up the win on the mound.
Federal Way (3-4) blew away Auburn Riverside Thursday, 17-7, in six innings thanks to 14 runs in the first three innings. Jarred Lee finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs and Drew Cratsenberg was 2 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Elliot Morris got the win on the mound.
Decatur (4-3) lost a heart-breaker to the first-place Curtis Vikings (6-1) Thursday. The Vikings tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie. Decatur outhit Curtis, 10-5, and got a pair of hits from Kyle Font.
Jefferson (4-4) couldn’t get anything going offensively Thursday during a 3-1 loss to Tahoma in Maple Valley. Jerad Casper limited TJ to just one hit, a double by Jeff Brigham. Raider pitcher Andrew Jones was also solid on the mound. Jones, a left-hander, gave up only three hits to the Bears, but Tahoma tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Track
Todd Beamer ran by the Decatur Gators Thursday, 80-56. The Titans won eight of the 10 running events, including both relays. Duran Ward won the 100 meters in a blazing 11.09 and Travis Koch won the 200 in 23.50. Ward and Koch were also on the winning 4×100 relay team, which won a time of 43.89. Beamer won the Class 4A state title in the same event last spring.
On the girls’ side, the Titans also cruised by Decatur Thursday, 86-50. The Titans got three individual wins from Emma Cortes in the long jump (14-8), triple jump (30-10) and 300 hurdles (52.53). Taylor Kartes won the 800 (2:28) and 1,600 (5:42).
