PREP SPORTS WRAP: Decatur soccer remains unbeaten with 3-2 win over Enumclaw

The Eagles needed only five innings to beat the Spanaway Lake Sentinels Wednesday, 13-1, in Federal Way.

The Decatur soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-2 win over Enumclaw Friday night in South Puget Sound League 3A action. The win improves the Gators to 2-0-0 in league play and 6-0-0 overall.

Decatur got a pair of goals from Michael Klavuhn and a single goal from Taylor Weatherly to seal the win.

The two goals give Klavuhn an impressive 10 in the six games for the Gators. In total, Decatur has outscored its opponents, 16-6, this season.

Federal Way — The Eagles (4-1-1) had eight different players score, including a hat trick by Javier Dieguez, during a 12-0 win over Bethel Friday.

The Eagles also got a pair of goals from Ben Willis and Ethan Tran. Other goal scorers were Sean Rigney, Alex Lewis, Luis Sanchez, Sean Tang and Garrett Brewer.

Jefferson — The Raiders remained unbeaten in the SPSL North with a 3-0 shut out of the Auburn Trojans Friday. Jefferson (5-0-1) took the lead early on a goal from Louis Alvaro Osornio in the fourth minute.

The Raiders added second-half goals from Jacob Thoreson and Tyler Hamishima to finalize the score.

Beamer — The Titans (2-4-1) played to a 1-1 with the Rogers Rams Friday in SPSL South action in Puyallup. Both goals were tallied during the season half. Beamer’s goal came from Ang Ta in the 60th minute.

BASEBALL

Federal Way — The Eagles needed only five innings to beat the Spanaway Lake Sentinels Wednesday, 13-1, in Federal Way.

The Eagles (4-2) tallied four runs in the first, two in the second, four in the  third and three more in the fourth on 11 hits. Evan Elliot picked up the win on the mound by allowing only two hits, while striking out seven.

Offensively, Federal Way was led by Derek Klaas and Chris Shimer. Klaas finished 2 for 3 with three runs and Shimer was 2 for 3 with two runs and a double.

Beamer — The Titans (5-3) lost their second SPSL South game in a row Friday to the Curtis Vikings, 5-1. Again, the Beamer offense struggled to score runs. The Titans had only two hits against Curtis’ Madison Alder.

University of Washington-bound Matt Bower threw 5 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits and struck out six. Only two of Curtis’ five runs were earned.

Emerald Ridge got the best of Beamer Wednesday, 5-2. The Jags jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Beamer tallied both of its runs in the top of the seventh. The Titans had only four hits on the day.

Ben Arata finished 1 for 2 with an RBI and Sam Kosbab was 1 for 3 with a double for Beamer. Richie Apigo threw five innings and got the loss on the mound. Kurt Skoda threw a complete-game, striking out nine for Emerald Ridge.

Decatur — The Gators (1-7) were shut out by Auburn Mountainview, 5-0, in SPSL 3A action Wednesday. Auburn Mountainview’s Shawn Guinn allowed only two hits to get the win. Decatur’s Chris Carns was also impressive on the mound for Decatur. Auburn Mountainview scored all five of their runs on just two hits. The Gators were hurt by three errors in the field.

SOFTBALL

Beamer — The Titans (4-1) rolled over Curtis Friday in SPSL South action, 11-1, in five innings. Beamer got a huge offensive day from Halle Colson, who finished with two home runs and five RBIs. Colson was 3 for 3 on the day.

Madison Rogers also had a good day for the Titans. Rogers allowed only two hits and struck out eight on the mound and was also 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI at the plate.

Emily Scott finished 2 for 3 with three runs, two RBIs, a home run and a triple.
