Amber Cratsenberg and Rachel Kim proved to be the class of the South Puget Sound League Saturday. Cratsenberg, a junior at Thomas Jefferson, and Kim, a Beamer senior, both won a pair of individual events in state-qualifying times at the SPSL 4A Girls Swimming Championships at Rogers High School.
Cratsenberg won the 200-yard freestyle in a state time of 1:54.78 and the 500 free in 5:05.66. The two events were different than the two Cratsenberg won last year at the state championships. As a sophomore, Cratsenberg took home state titles in the 50 free and 100 free.
Kim, who earned Ironwoman status during the regular season by swimming automatic state-qualifying times in all eight individual events, won titles Saturday in the 50 free and 100 free.
Kim won the ultra-competitive 50 free in 24.96 over two other swimmers who also swam state-qualifying times. Kentridge’s Emily Mohr was second in the race at 24.99 and Federal Way’s Kenna Ramey was third in 25.12 and also finished second in the 100 butterfly. Kim also won the 100 free in 53.72.
Beamer’s Elizabeth Wiley won the district’s only other individual title Saturday at Rogers in diving. Wiley tallied 366.0 points to outdistance a pair of Jefferson divers. Madi Kellar finished second with 361.55 points and Monica Church was third with 322.5.
Mount Rainier won the team title with 258 points. Beamer finished up in seventh place, Beamer was eighth and Federal Way ended up in 12th.
The West Central District Meet will be Friday and Saturday at Rogers High School.
Girls Soccer
Thomas Jefferson junior Lindsey Dahl continued her impressive offensive season Thursday with another hat trick during a 6-0 Raider win over Kent-Meridian. The three goals give Dahl 19 on the season in 14 games. The win, coupled with a 0-0 tie against Auburn Saturday, moves TJ (6-5-2) into fifth place in the SPSL North Division.
The Raiders also got two goals from Hannah Friedman and a single goal from Nicole Goldingay against Kent-Meridian.
The Decatur Gators (5-3-0, 8-5-0) remained in third place in the SPSL 3A Division with a 3-1 win over Peninsula Thursday. The Gators got goals from Sierra Shugarts, Lauren Whybrew and Abby McFaul.
Volleyball
All four Federal Way school were swept during Thursday’s round of matches in the SPSL. Jefferson (0-7 SPSL North, 1-10 overall) lost to Auburn, 25-16, 25-10, 25-21, despite getting five kills from Leone Tanielu.
In the SPSL South, Beamer (0-7, 5-9) fell to Graham-Kapowsin, 25-11, 25-16, 25-14, and Curtis beat Federal Way, 25-12, 25-19, 25-10. Beamer got five kills and four blocks from Megan Huff and 16 assists from Sophie Miller.
The Decatur Gators (1-8, 2-12) lost to Bonney Lake, 25-23, 25-13, 25-15, Thursday and got five kills from Christina Sessoms.
