The best volleyball team in Federal Way might be the smallest high school in the city. The Christian Faith Eagles, a Class B private school, continued their impressive early-season by sweeping the Class 4A Federal Way Eagles Saturday in a non-league contest.
Christian Faith, who finished ninth at last year’s Class B State Volleyball Tournament, won 25-23, 25-22, 25-18, over Federal Way. Christian Faith got an impressive day from outside hitter Kendra Ireigbe, who led the Eagles with 11 kills and 3.5 blocks. Mackenzie Carroll finished with six kills and 11 digs, setter Amanda Tofaeono had 22 assists, 11 digs and three kills and Malia Cabiles chipped in five kills and 11 digs.
Christian Faith proved they would be a solid team during the preseason when they finished 11th out of 32 teams at the Yakima Sundome Festival earlier this month. At the tournament, Christian Faith won games from North Kitsap, Thorp, Davis, Cedar Park and Kennewick.
The loss dropped Federal Way to 2-2 on the season. The Eagles also were swept by Auburn on Thursday, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17. Federal Way got nine kills from Carly Bottemiller and Autisia Westerlund and 22 assists frm Luaipou Lologo.
The Todd Beamer Titans won a rugged five-gamer from Jefferson Thursday in a non-league match, 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 19-25, 15-8. The Titans got 13 kills and 10 digs from Lexie Jones, 25 assists from Sophie Miller, six blocks and three aces from Megan Stumpf and five kills and four blocks from Bekkah Young.
Jefferson was led by the 28 assists of Allie Crowe and 16 kills from Andrina Tanielu.
Girls Golf
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders rolled to an easy win over the Curtis Vikings Thursday at Riverbend, 98-44. The Raiders got an impressive 25 points from state-tournament veteran Alexus Song. Jefferson also got strong rounds from Sarah Uyu (17 points), Johnna Moore (17), Julia Yun (16) and Jiny Lee (13).
Decatur picked up an impressive win over Peninsula Thursday at Twin Lakes, 113-71. Amanda Beyke earned medalist honors by firing a 2-over par, 38 at Twin Lakes.
Boys Golf
Jefferson fell to the Curtis Vikings Thursday in an SPSL Central Division match at Meadow Park Golf Course, 88-73. Curtis’ Matt Clare shot a 1-under, 34 to earn medalist honors. Jefferson was led by matching 38s from Oakley Murphy and Tyler Mullen.
Girls Soccer
The Todd Beamer Titans remained atop the SPSL South Division, but suffered their first blemish of the season Thursday when they tied the Emerald Ridge Jaguars, 1-1. The tie moved the Titans’ record to 3-0-1 in division play.
Emerald Ridge’s Kimmie Stueckle tallied the first goal of the game just before halftime to give the Jaguars (1-1-1) the 1-0 lead. The Stueckle goal was the first one given up this season by the Titans.
But Beamer sophomore Breanna Straus tallied her fifth goal in four games in the 54th minute to tie the game.
The Decatur Gators moved to 3-1-0 on the season with another non-league win Thursday. The Gators blew away Timberline, 8-1.
Decatur got a hat trick from junior Abby McFaul and single goals from Ashley Graves, Hannah Herbert, Tori Zellerhoff, Jennifer Kanesta and Rachel Neira.
The Gators kicked off their SPSL 3A schedule Tuesday against Bonney Lake and will host Enumclaw Thursday.
Federal Way improved to 2-1-0 in the SPSL South with a 6-2 win over Graham-Kapowsin Thursday afternoon at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
It was the Sydney show for the Eagles. Sydney Glasser and Sydney Slaggs combined for five goals against Graham-Kapowsin. Glasser finished with a hat trick and Slaggs had a pair of goals during the win. Senior captain Haley Ward tallied the other goal and also dished out three assists.
Jefferson and Mount Rainier played to a 2-2 tie Friday afternoon at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
Mount Rainier took a 2-1 lead on Kaitlin Freeberg’s second goal in the 18th minute. But the Raiders’ Kassandra Carrel took a pass from Nicolette Carnahan in the 72nd minute to tie the game. Jefferson’s first goal came from junior Lindsey Dahl in the 15th minute.
Girls Swimming
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders picked up an impressive 113-56 victory over Auburn Riverside Thursday. The Raiders got state-qualifying times and two wins from Amber Cratsenberg in the 50-yard free (24.77) and 100 free (54.67). Cratsenberg won state titles in the two events last season.
Jefferson also got a pair of victories from Janice Huynh in the 200 free (2:17.12) and 100 backstroke (1:08.95) and Savannah Coe in the 200 individual medley (2:16.93) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.21).
The Todd Beamer Titans got by the Federal Way Eagles Thursday, 96-90. The Eagles won all three relay races, but the Titans placed better in the individual events. Beamer was led by a pair of state-qualifying times from Rachel Kim in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Beamer’s Taylor Wintler also was a double winner in the 200 free and 100 backstroke.
The Titans also got individual wins from Liz Wiley in diving, Estelle Kim in the 500 free and Ryann Probstfield in the 100 breaststroke.
