The Todd Beamer Titan baseball team jumped right back in the South Puget Sound League South Division mix Saturday with a huge 5-4 win over the Curtis Vikings in Federal Way.
The win improved the Titans to 7-3 in the South and dropped Curtis to 8-2. Puyallup leads the division with a 9-1 record.
The victory sets up a huge week for Beamer. The Titans took on the 7-2 Emerald Ridge Jaguars Tuesday (after press time), host Decatur (4-5) today and travel to first-place Puyallup on Friday. The top-four teams from the SPSL South advance into the postseason.
Saturday’s win over Curtis was the second one-run game the two teams have played this season. The Vikings downed the Titans, 6-5, on March 27 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a 5-4 Beamer lead.
This time around, Curtis jumped all over Beamer in the top of the first inning with three runs, but the Titans battled back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3.
The Vikings added a run in the top of the third to take the lead back before the Titans tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab the lead back for good.
Beamer senior Brian Corliss finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and also picked up the win on the mound. Corliss threw the final four innings in relief of starter Carson Wolbert, striking out four and not allowing a run.
Beamer’s Ryan Beck finished with a pair of runs and Travis Crumb was 1 for 2 with a double.
