The Todd Beamer baseball team remained right in the South Puget Sound League South Division playoff chase with a pair of wins Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Titans (10-5) downed Bethel Tuesday, 18-6, and beat up Graham-Kapowsin Wednesday, 11-3. Puyallup sits atop the South at 12-1 and Emerald Ridge is second at 11-2. The top-four teams advance into the postseason.
Against Bethel, the Titans erupted for eight runs each in the second and third innings to take an 18-0 lead. Beamer got a huge game from Kelvin Ketchum. The senior finished 3 for 3 with a home run, triple and six RBIs. Brian Corliss ended up 2 for 3 with three runs, Nick Edwards was 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs, Kenny Johnson was 3 for 3 with two runs and Carson Wolbert finished 2 for 3 with two runs. Steven Foster got the win on the mound.
Against Graham-Kapowsin, Wolbert limited the Eagles to just three hits and Ryan Beck finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Johnson collected three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Jefferson (9-6) remained in third place in the SPSL North by splitting a pair of games Tuesday and Wednesday. The Raiders beat Auburn Tuesday, 7-4, and lost to Kentlake Wednesday, 6-5.
Against Auburn, TJ got three RBIs and a home run from Austin Campbell. Jeff Brigham and Brett Fitzgerald both added RBIs for the Raiders. Drew Staples picked up the win on the mound.
Jefferson couldn’t hold the lead Wednesday against Kentlake (8-6). The Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three runs in the top of the second, but the Falcons tallied the next six runs to take a 6-4 lead. Jefferson added a run in the top of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough. Andrew Jones finished 2 for 3 with a run and Branden Muraki was 1 for 1 with a run for TJ.
Boys soccer
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders remained in a tie for the top spot in the SPSL North Division with a 3-1 win over Auburn Riverside Tuesday. The win improved the Raiders to 8-2-3 and leaves them in a tie with Kentridge. The Chargers and TJ play Friday night in both teams’ regular-season finale.
Against Auburn Riverside, Chris Miller tallied a pair of goals early in the second half to overcome a 1-0 Auburn Riverside lead. Miller scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute and followed three minutes later with another goal on a pass from sophomore Chase Hanson. Ernan Roman scored the Raiders’ third goal in the 54th minute on a pass from Amos Nistrian.
The Decatur Gators (7-3-2) moved into the fourth and final playoff berth from the SPSL South with a 4-0 win over Bethel Tuesday.
The Gators got a pair of goals from Dominique Dismuke and Alejandro Davenport in the first half.
Girls tennis
The Decatur Gators continued their winning ways with two more impressive victories. The Gators downed Beamer Tuesday, 3-2, and also beat Jefferson in a non-league match, 4-0, in the completion of a suspended match from earlier this season.
The victories improved the Gators to 10-2 in the SPSL South, which is good for second place in the South behind the unbeaten Puyallup Vikings (14-0). Decatur has four matches remaining in the regular season.
Against Beamer, the Gators easily won both singles’ matches and Meghan Cassens and Christina Sessoms at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-0.
Beamer moved to 5-8 in the South with a win over third-place Rogers (8-4) Monday. Against Rogers, the Titans won all three doubles’ matches. Melissa Canfield and Jessica Sutcliff won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3, Kim Hong and Ruth Yi at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4, and Mishka Florianova and Kelly Erickson at No. 3, 7-5, 7-6.
Fastpitch
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders moved into a tie for second place in the SPSL North with an 11-1 win over Auburn Tuesday. Senior Jessica Dickson limited the Trojans to five hits and was also 2-for-3 at the plate.
Erin Fujita provided a lot of the offense for TJ. The senior outfielder finished 4 for 4 with four RBIs and a double. Catcher Christi Bruin ended up with three RBIs and Hannah Kiyohara was 3 for 5 with two RBIs.
