PREP SPORTS WRAP: Beamer baseball hangs on against Rogers, 4-3; Decatur shut out

The Todd Beamer baseball team held on Tuesday to beat the Rogers Rams in a key South Puget Sound League South Division game in Federal Way, 4-3.

The win improved the Titans to 6-3 in league play. Beamer jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the third inning. But Rogers tallied three runs in the top of the seventh to finalize the score.

Taylor Davis was impressive again on the mound. Coming off a no-hitter against Curtis last week, Davis allowed only two hits Tuesday to Rogers. The sophomore struck out six in 6 1/3 innings. Blake Randazzo earned the save for the Titans.

Offensively, Beamer was led by Jarred Prather, who finished 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and a run. Lawyer Braun was 2 for 3 with two runs and a double and Tristan Coopinger and Kepa Sharpe both knocked in a run.

Decatur — The Gators dropped their second SPSL 3A game of the season Tuesday to Peninsula, 2-0. Decatur (9-4 overall, 6-2 SPSL 3A) couldn’t get anything going against Seahawk starter Scott Russell, who limited the Gators to five hits in seven innings.

Janson Junk was also impressive on the mound. The Decatur junior allowed only six hits in seven innings of work and one earned run. Offensively, the Gators got two hits each from Taylor Havilcik and Isaiah Hatch.

Federal Way — The Eagles lost to Puyallup Tuesday, 5-2, to fall to 1-11 in the SPSL South. Federal Way took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Vikings tallied four in the third to take control.

Derek Klaas, Chris Shimer and Evan Elliott all had a hit for Federal Way. Klaas and Elliott finished with an RBI apiece.

Jefferson — The Raiders (5-6 overall, 3-6 SPSL North) dominated the Kent-Meridian Royals Tuesday, 11-1, in five innings. Nathan Baughman finished 2 for 2 with an RBI, Niko DelaCruz was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Mark Fitzgerald finished with a two-run home run.

Softball

Beamer — The Titans lost a slugfest Tuesday to the Rogers Rams, 16-15. The Rams scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to break the tie and get the SPSL South win and hand the Titans their first league loss.

Beamer (8-2 overall, 6-1 SPSL South) got two hits, three runs and two RBIs from Taylor Weimern-Pierce and Madison Rogers finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.
