Prep football: All four FW teams lose again; Top-ranked Auburn beats up TJ, 42-22

For the second weekend in a row, the four Federal Way school district football teams went winless. Federal Way and Decatur fell to 0-3 on the season with the losses and Jefferson and Beamer are now 1-2.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders actually played the closest game of the week against the top-ranked team in the state. The unbeaten Auburn Trojans jumped out to a 42-0 lead early in the third quarter before the Raiders tallied the final 22 points of the game to make the final score a respectable, 42-22.

The game was played Friday night under rainy skies at Federal Way Memorial Stadium and featured several turnovers during a sloppy first half. But the Trojans were just too big and strong up front for Jefferson.

Auburn’s massive offensive line and the running of seniors Austin Embody and Alphonse Wade shredded the Raiders. Embody finished with 137 yards and three touchdowns, including a 69-yard run and 36-yard pass. Wade finished with 105 yards and two touchdowns, including runs of 58 and 27 yards.

The Raiders got on the scoreboard during the third quarter thanks to a 3-yard touchdown run by Keegan Giles. The Raiders’ Quavon Starling added a pair of touchdown catches during the fourth quarter to finalize the score. Both catches came on 25-yard passes from junior quarterback K.W. Williams.

Curtis 33, at Federal Way 13 — The second-ranked Curtis Vikings moved to 3-0 on the season with a win over Federal Way Thursday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The loss dropped the Eagles to 0-3.

C.J. Langlow caught three touchdown passes for the Vikings. Quarterback Tyler Jamison threw scoring passes of 44 and 12 yards to Langlow and Rahmel Dockery connected with Langlow on a 31-yard pass. Dockery also scored on a 9-yard run for Curtis.

D.J. May returned a kickoff 88 yards for Federal Way in the second quarter to cut the Curtis lead to 13-7. But the Vikings scored the next two touchdowns to lead 27-7.

Stanley Matau added a 17-yard touchdown catch for the Eagles in the third quarter on a pass from senior quarterback Nick Tanielu.

Yelm 21, Decatur 0 — The Gators moved to 0-3 by getting shutout by the Yelm Tornados Saturday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium in a non-league contest.

The Tornados got two touchdown runs from Jacob Swiley and held the Gators scoreless.

The Gators will travel to Tacoma Friday night to take on the Lincoln Abes in another non-league game at the Lincoln Bowl.

Auburn Riverside 42, Beamer 19 — The Titans (1-2) took an early 6-0 lead Saturday night against the Ravens on a 75-yard touchdown run by quarterback TJ Esekielu.

But the Ravens responded with a pair of touchdowns of their own before Esekielu tallied another 24-yard TD run in the first quarter to cut the Riverside lead to 14-13.

It was all Ravens from there, however. Auburn Riverside scored the next 21 points before Nick Bod caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Esekielu in the fourth quarter.
