Federal Way National Little League will be sending three teams to the state championships on July 12, which are held in various venues. The teams set to compete in the state championships are the 9/10 Baseball All-Stars, the 10/11 Softball All-Stars and the 11/12 Baseball All-Stars.

If the teams continue their success, they’d find themselves in the Little League Northwest regional tournament in San Bernadino, California. That tournament consists of teams from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, and the winner(s) of that tournament will move on to play in the Little League World Series later this summer.

The 9/10 team found their way to the state championships starting on June 14, going undefeated over the course of seven days and outscoring their opponents 48-11 and posting two shutouts. They rolled through the Steel Lake Little League All-Stars 10-0, followed by a rout of the South Hill Little League All-Stars 11-3, and the Kent Little League All-Stars 13-0. The championship found the team facing off again with the South Hill team, with Federal Way securing the title with a 14-8 win. The 9/10 team will head to Richland to make a run at the state championship on July 12.

The 9/10 team is made up of Ben Adams, Braden Bedell, Nate Cook, Luke Dalrymple, Brett Ellingson, Elijah Graham, Tyler Harries, Willie Hernandez, Payton Holloway, TJ Hurn, Cole Jackson, Aidan Mandina, Ryan Marino and James Turner. The team was managed by Derek Marino, with Phil Dalrymple and Jeff Haag helping out.

The team’s pitching combined for a 1.20 ERA and was led by Harries, Cook, Dalrymple, Marino and Hernandez. The team hit for 12 extra base hits during their run to the state championship tournament, and saw Mandia, Cook, Dalrymple, Ellingson and Harries carry the load.

The 10/11 Softball All-Stars followed up with an opening round loss to the combined team from Auburn, Kent and Soundview Little Leagues, but then proceeded to rattle off four consecutive wins. In that four-game win streak they eliminated teams from Chinook Little League and Bonney Lake-Sumner before facing off with the Auburn/Kent/Soundview team again. The team had to defeat the Auburn/Kent/Soundview twice over that weekend to take home the state title, and did so to bring home the hardware and advance to the state tournament on July 12 at Sunset Park in Auburn.

The team consists of Jesenay Agulto, Jenna Bettge, Chloe Barrier, Krailyn Guymon, Kaycie Haven, Christine Lee, Maclairen Magruder, Tiana McLarty, Peyton Miller, Faith Morris, Anna Swanson and Makena Togia. The manager is Tom Magruder and he’s assisted by coaches Jesse Agulto and Nevile McLarty.

Finally, the 11/12 Baseball All-Stars had a similarly dominant performance as the 9/10 boys on their way to the state tournament. They too went undefeated over the course of the week and faced Auburn twice to take the title. The 11/12 team routed Steel Lake 15-0, South Hill 6-4, Auburn 12-8 and then Auburn again in the championship, 12-1. Overall, the 11/12 team outscored their opponents 45-15 and notched 12 home runs from seven different players, two of which were grand slams.

The 11/12 team consists of Cole Bakker, David Bedell, Carter Berry, Alex Bradshaw, Nate Clow, Connor Ellingson, Abi Gonzalez, Judah Graham, Colin Heffernan, Tyler Hoeft, Justin Maggerise, Spencer Sugg, Adam Taylor and Zach Yoon. The manager of the team is John Sugg, and he’s assisted by coaches Steve Pearson and Bryan Bakker.

The 11/12 state championship kicks off on July 12 at the Bar-S Playground in West Seattle. If the 11/12 team can take the top spot in this tournament, it puts them in the Little League Northwest Regional Tournament in San Bernadino, California. That tournament brings teams from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Wyoming together to compete for the chance to play at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Sugg said the 11/12 team is a special group of kids, with 11 of the 14 players having been part of the 9/10 All-Star team that won the Washington State title in 2012.
