Murphy Campbell, who graduated from Federal Way High School in 2008, scored a goal against the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer during a practice game on Tuesday night. Campbell is a sophomore on the Santa Clara University soccer team.
The Broncos took on the Earthquake at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara for a spring season practice game. Campbell started at center-midfield for the Broncos and scored the goal in the second half after knocking down an Earthquake defender. The Earthquake downed Santa Clara, 3-1.
Santa Clara was one point away from qualifying for the Division I NCAA soccer playoffs in November.
Campbell was a captain two years at Federal Way and played in the 2007 state soccer championship game for the Eagles. He was selected All-South Puget Sound League during three years of his high school career.
He was not allowed to play high school soccer his senior year of high school, due to the request of his US Youth Academy Crossfire team coach Bernie James.
