Former Thomas Jefferson High School shortstop, Todd Muecklisch, is about to become a professional baseball player. Muecklisch was selected in the 26th round by the Florida Marlins Tuesday on the second day of the 2010 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Muecklisch is currently a senior at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. He was actually one of five LCSC players drafted Tuesday after missing most of the season with an injury. The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder was the 797th overall pick.

This was Muecklisch’s second season at LCSC after playing his first two at Tacoma Community College. He was sidelined by injuries throughout his career at LCSC, but certainly was stellar in his time on the field.

As a junior he missed nearly two-thirds of the season with a hip flexor and other injuries. He came back in time to be the club’s starting shortstop at the Avista NAIA World Series, where he earned the tournament’s Golden Glove Award for his outstanding defensive play. Despite playing in only 20 of 55 games last season, he still led the team with a .438 batting average.

This season, he played in 16 games and started 15 and hit .327 with three doubles, two triples and four home runs. He had a slugging percentage of .673 and had three stolen bases.

Muecklisch again missed nearly two months prior to the start of the World Series, but came back to be the team’s starting left fielder, the first time he played the position this year. In his first game at the Series earlier this month, he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.

Lewis-Clark State came into the 2010 NAIA World Series as the top-ranked team in the nation, but were eliminated on June 1 by Embry-Riddle University, 10-7. The Warriors also lost to Lee University in the second round on May 31 and finished the season 48-5.

While at Tacoma CC, Muecklisch hit .284 (33-for-116) with five home runs, five doubles, a triple, 26 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 13 attempts in 2008. In 2007, he hit .268 with two home runs, 11 doubles, two triples, 21 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.

Muecklisch’s father, Bobby Joe Edmonds Jr., played in the Phillies organization and later in the NFL for five seasons, including a stint with the Seattle Seahawks.
