Decatur High School sophomore Nehemiah Washington, football, is in the spotlight this week for the Federal Way Mirror’s Male Athlete of the Week.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: Math class.
Q: What additional activities/hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Listening to music.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My coaches Matt Vaeena and Uso Olive.
Q: If you could have dinner with anyone (living or from the past), who would it be?
A: Ryan Reynolds because he is funny.
Q: Describe your pre-game ritual.
A: Have music playing at all times to lock in.
Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?
A: “2 Million Up,” Peezy.
From the sidelines: Nehemiah Washington, a sophomore, has been an integral part of the Decatur Gators football team’s first two victories. He has led the Gator offense with 427 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the first two games. Nehemiah was selected by coaches to the NPSL All-League Football Team for running backs as a freshman in the 2021 fall season. Nehemiah earned varsity letters in wrestling and track and field during his freshman year. Nehemiah also excels in the classroom, earning a 3.722 cumulative grade point average.
The Athlete of the Week feature section highlights two athletes from a Federal Way high school each week. Voting for the Athlete of the Year is held in spring with an awards celebration event held in June 2023.
