Lindsey Dahl is used to juggling numerous things at one time.

The recent Thomas Jefferson High School graduate left with 10 letters sewn to her Raider letterman’s jacket in three different sports, which is an anomaly in today’s sport-specific society. And that doesn’t even take into consideration Dahl’s work inside the classroom at TJ, which is also top notch.

“I really enjoyed doing everything,” Dahl said. “All of my coaches were really helpful and understanding. They all gave me plenty of time to do everything.”

Dahl, who was twice a first-team All-State soccer player, a solid contributor on the Raider basketball team and a multi-time placer at the state track and field meet, can now add the Mirror’s 2012 Female Athlete of the Year award to her already-packed list of accomplishments.

Dahl is now set to head to the University of Montana in Missoula to compete on the Grizzly track and field team.

“It’s so beautiful there,” Dahl said. “I’m kind of a country girl and one that doesn’t really like the city.”

But Dahl won’t be totally giving up the juggling act she has been performing during her time at Jefferson when she heads to Big Sky Country. The track and field coaches at the University of Montana recruited her to compete in the heptathlon, which consists of seven different events, including the 100-meter dash, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin and 800 meters.

During her prep career, Dahl placed at the state meet in the javelin, long jump, triple jump and the hurdles. She also had numerous dual meets when she won four different individual events.

A week after she competed in three different events at the 2012 Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in Tacoma, Dahl finished in second place in the heptathlon at the 41st Annual Washington State Combined Events Championships at Lake Stevens High School.

“I’m really excited to do that in college,” Dahl said. “I’m ready to get training and to get to Montana.”

But Dahl will not be competing in the sport that she had the most success during her high school career – soccer.

She was truly a goal-scoring machine for the Raiders during her stellar career.

Dahl finished her senior season with an amazing 28 goals and five assists in just 18 matches. In total, the Raiders scored 41 goals during the season and their second-highest scorer finished the year with three. She was named first-team, All-State for the second year in a row.

As a junior, Dahl was also the co-Most Valuable Player in the SPSL North, finishing with 20 goals and four assists to lead the SPSL. She had six multi-goal games, including three hat tricks. During her career, Dahl scored a grand total of 63 goals for Jefferson, including nine as a freshman and six as a sophomore.

“My goal this season was to beat my junior season in goals,” Dahl said. “I wanted to be above that. Scoring a goal feels amazing. Everybody wants to score a goal with everybody running up to you. It’s the highlight of the game. It’s just awesome.”

Dahl had some options to play soccer in college at places like Eastern and Central Washington, but really wanted to get out of the state.

“I’m going to miss playing soccer,” Dahl said. “I’ve played it my whole life and it’s been weird lately, because I haven’t touched a soccer ball in three months.”

Dahl also picked up two letters on the Thomas Jefferson basketball team. As a senior, she came back to the Raiders after not playing as a junior to concentrate on club soccer. She averaged five points for the Raiders and helped TJ get back into the postseason for the first time in three years.

“I really enjoyed the team,” Dahl said. “I came back to help the team and basketball helps keep you in shape. I figured, why not go have fun and help the team as well?”
