The Thomas Jefferson Raiders had a very solid first day at the South Puget Sound League Track and Field Championships Wednesday at French Field in Kent.
The Raiders boys and girls brought home four individual titles, including three by the TJ girls. The SPSL Championships will continue at French Field on Friday.
Jefferson’s Kayla Adams easily won the shot put Wednesday with a throw of 42 feet, 11 inches. Adams, a junior, won the Class 4A state shot put championship last year and currently has the state’s best throw during the 2010 season (44-4 3/4).
The Jefferson girls’ other two individual titles came in the same event. Kendra Ansotigue and Lindsey Dahl tied for first place in the javelin with throws of 108-8. Ansotigue is the defending West Central District champion in the event and Wednesday’s throw was a personal-best for Dahl.
On the boys’ side, pole vaulter Matt Barner tied with a pair of Kent-Meridian athletes for first place with a vault of 13-0.
