GYMNASTICS: Jefferson snares All-City championship by outdistancing Decatur | Slideshow

Another year, another All-City gymnastics championship for the Thomas Jefferson Raiders. For the second year in a row, the Raiders won the four-team meet Wednesday night inside their home gym.

Jefferson tallied 165.25 points to outdistance second-place Decatur, who finished with an impressive 164.35 points. Beamer ended up in third place with 143.25 and Federal Way was fourth in the team competition with 142.85 points.

Jefferson and Decatur also dominated the all-around competition Wednesday night. The Raiders and Gators had the top-nine finishers in the all-around with TJ senior Shelby Church topping the group with 35.1 points. Church also had the best score on the balance beam with a 9.2.

Decatur was led by Allison Sherwin and Anna Paradee. Sherwin finished second in the all-around with 34.6 points and Paradee was third with 34.5. Paradee dominated the vault with an impressive 9.45 and Sherwin had the top score on the uneven parallel bars with an 8.1.

Shelby Church’s twin sister, Monica, had the best score of the night when she tallied a 9.55 on the floor exercise to win the event.

Jefferson’s Danielle Poltz was fourth in the all-around (32.6) and teammate Tigger Husinga was fifth (31.9). Federal Way’s top all-around finisher was Tiffany McNeary in 10th place with 30.75 points and Beamer’s Mariah Heflin was 13th with 27.1 points.

Up next for the four programs around Federal Way is the 2A/3A/4A Sub-District Gymnastics Meet, which will take place Saturday at Mount Rainier High School.
