Underneath a steady downpour, the Federal Way Eagles were too much for Kentwood Tuesday night at the South Puget Sound League Girls Soccer Tournament.
The Eagles earned the SPSL’s fifth seed into the West Central/Southwest District Tournament with a 3-0 win over the Conquerors at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The game pitted the two third-place finishers from the SPSL’s North and South divisions.
As the fifth seed, the Eagles will now travel to Vancouver to take on the second-place team from the Greater St. Helen’s League at districts at 4 p.m. at McKenzie Stadium Saturday, Nov. 3. Federal Way will play the loser of a game between Camas and Union in a loser-out, winner-to-state matchup. The two teams are playing for the GSHL championship Wednesday night.
The Eagles got goals from senior Bianca Arizpe, sophomore Garbriela Pelogi and freshman Kayla Peterson. Sydney Slagg and Audrey Shin both had assists for Federal Way.
University of Washington-bound senior goalkeeper Sarah Shimer pitched her eighth shutout of the season against high-powered Kentwood, who finished 10-3-3 in the SPSL North.
