Things didn’t turn out too good for the Beamer and Decatur girls soccer teams Wednesday night at the South Puget Sound League Tournament.
The Titans (11-3-3) were beaten up by the Kentwood Conquerors, 3-1, in the battle between the two second-place teams from the North at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The win earned Kentwood the SPSL’s No. 3 seed into Saturday’s West Central District Tournament. Beamer earned the league’s fourth seed and will take on Stadium at 1 p.m. at Art Crate Stadium in a loser-out, winner-to-state game. Stadium finished as the third seed from the Narrows League after beating Gig Harbor, 3-1, Tuesday at the Narrows League Tournament.
Kiana Kraft, Courtney Roller and Alex White all tallied goals for the Conquerors Wednesday night.
Beamer will be counting on senior Holland Crook to get them back to the state tournament. The Arizona State University-signee leads the Titans with 14 goals and six assists during the season. Mackenzie Hickel and Breanna Straus are second on the team in scoring with 19 total points each. Hickel has seven goals and five assists and Straus has eight goals and three assists.
Kentlake, which is making its first postseason appearance since 2003, knocked off Decatur 1-0 at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup Wednesday. Kentlake and Decatur both finished in third place in their respective divisions.
Callen Shelton scored the lone goal of the game and Savannah Wood picked up the shutout in goal for Kentlake.
With the loss, Decatur (10-3-4) moves on to the loser-out district tournament, where they will take on the Bellarmine Prep Lions at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tacoma’s Lincoln Bowl with a berth into the state tournament on the line. Bellarmine (17-2-1) lost to South Kitsap Tuesday in the Narrows League championship game, 2-0, to earn the league’s second seed into districts.
The loss snapped Bellarmine’s 10-year reign on the Narrows’ top seed to the West Central District Tournament.
The Gators will need to get their offense going against Bellarmine. Decatur hasn’t tallied a single goal since beating Spanaway Lake on Oct. 27. Rachel Markey and Ashley Graves have led the way all season for the Gators. Markey leads the team with 13 goals and Graves has scored 10 times.
