The South Puget Sound League South Division-champion Todd Beamer Titans got a little revenge Friday night.

The South Puget Sound League South Division-champion Todd Beamer Titans got a little revenge Friday night.

Having already wrapped up the league title, the Titans had the opportunity to avenge their only SPSL South loss of the season and they did exactly that. Beamer dominated the 10th-ranked Federal Way Eagles, 60-42, to finish the SPSL South regular season with a 15-1 record.

Federal Way, who finished third in the SPSL South with a 12-4 record, had beaten the Titans, 52-51, three weeks before.

This time around, it was all Beamer. After struggling with their shooting in the first half, the Titans dominated the second half. Federal Way (16-4 overall, 12-4 SPSL South) led 9-6 after the first quarter, before Beamer came back to take a 28-24 at halftime.

After Eagle senior Raven Benton hit a shot to open the second half, the Titans went on an 18-3 run to pull away from Federal Way. It was only the second time in the history of Todd Beamer High School that the Titans have beaten the Eagles.

The young Titans were led by junior Megan Huff. The 6-foot-3 forward finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Beamer also got impressive games from freshmen Quinessa Caylao-Do (15 points, six steals, four rebounds, three assists) and Bria Rice (15 points, seven rebounds, four assists).

Benton, who came into the game averaging 27 points, finished with a game-high 25 for the Eagles and Kayla Smith had 11.

Up next for the seventh-ranked Titans is a matchup against the top-ranked Mount Rainier Rams in the SPSL Championship. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. at Kent’s ShoWare Center on Thursday (Feb. 7). Mount Rainier won the SPSL North with an unbeaten 16-0 record. The winner will be the SPSL’s top seed to the West Central District Tournament and the loser will be the second seed.

Federal Way will take on the loser of a tiebreaker game between Auburn Riverside and Kentwood at 5:30 p.m. at Puyallup High School on Saturday (Feb. 9) in the fifth-sixth game.

Auburn Riverside and Kentwood tied for second-place with 13-3 records and will play Tuesday in the tiebreaker game.
