The eighth-ranked Federal Way Eagles easily dispatched of the Tahoma Bears Friday night in their South Puget Sound League North Division regular-season finale, 59-43. The win moved the Eagles (13-3 in the SPSL North, 16-4 overall) into a tie for second place in the league with the Auburn Riverside Ravens.
The two teams, who split their two regular season meetings, will play a tiebreaker game at 6 p.m. at Auburn High School Tuesday (Feb. 10). The winner will advance into the SPSL Tournament as the North’s third seed and the loser will be the fourth. The SPSL Tournament kicks off Friday with the fourth- and fifth-place teams playing at Bethel High School and continues Saturday at Auburn High School.
The Federal Way-Auburn Riverside winner will play SPSL South second-place finisher Rogers at noon at Auburn High School Saturday and the loser will play Puyallup at 10 a.m. Saturday in Auburn.
Against Tahoma, the Eagles got 15 points from sophomore Talia Walton and 12 from sophomore TyShana Burgess. Federal Way led 16-5 after the first quarter.
at Bethel 60, Decatur 48
The Gators missed out on the postseason with a heart-breaking loss to the Bethel Braves Saturday night. The loss left Decatur and Bethel tied for the fifth and final spot in the SPSL South, but the Braves swept the Gators during the regular season.
Bethel led 10-9 after the first quarter and 27-21 at halftime. Decatur (8-8, 8-12) got 12 points from Tenea Holcomb and Sarah Quantz.
The Gators’ eight wins this year came a season after Decatur finished 1-19.
Graham-Kapowsin 59, at Beamer 28
The league champion Eagles were too much for Beamer (3-13, 3-16) Friday night. The Titans were led by the six points of Codie Obungen.
