GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles get Barrington back, cruise past Spanaway Lake; Beamer and Decatur also win

The Federal Way Eagles were already the top-ranked team in every major poll in the state.

But the Eagles added another big-time weapon Tuesday. Federal Way senior point guard Brittany Barrington returned from knee surgery and helped the Eagles remain unbeaten in the South Puget Sound League South Division with a 77-43 win over Spanaway Lake on the road.

Barrington, a former first-team, All-SPSL player, finished with 14 points during the win. Fellow senior Talia Walton added 23 points and sophomore Raven Benton finished with 10 for Federal Way.

The Eagles (10-1 overall, 8-0 SPSL South) separated from Spanaway Lake during the second quarter when they outscored the Sentinels, 23-4.

Federal Way’s lone loss came in the title game of the Holiday Inn Express Holiday Tournament at North Idaho College to Coeur d’Alene High School, the defending Idaho state champions, 70-69.

In other girls basketball action:

at Beamer 41, Puyallup 31 — The Titans evened their record in the SPSL South to 4-4 with a big win over the Vikings Tuesday at Beamer.

The Titans (7-5 overall) got 14 points from senior guard Shyla Akins and nine points from Meghan Huff during the win. Defensively, Beamer held Puyallup to single-digit points in the first three quarters.

at Decatur 43, Enumclaw 40 — The Gators moved to 2-1 in the SPSL 3A Division with an overtime victory over the Enumclaw Hornets Tuesday night.

Decatur (5-7 overall) outscored the Hornets, 6-3, during the four-minute overtime session after erasing a four-point deficit during a fourth-quarter comeback.

The Gators were led by the 17 points of Alexis Cole and got 12 points from A’yesia Rogers.

at Mount Rainier 62, Jefferson 15 — The Raiders (4-7 overall, 3-5 SPSL North) tallied only 15 points against the Rams Tuesday in Des Moines. Mount Rainier (9-2, 6-2) took a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and led 35-9 at halftime.

Keryn Knight led TJ with seven points.
