The Kentwood Conqueror wrestling team was just too much for the Decatur Gators Thursday night. Kentwood remained unbeaten in the South Puget Sound League North Division with a 48-12 win over the Gators in Covington.

The loss dropped Decatur to 4-2 in the North.

The Gators picked up only three wins against Kentwood on their home mat. Decatur’s Tevyn Tillman got a pin at 285 in 2:17 over Austin Haggin, Spencer Kabelac decisioned Nick Zografos, 11-5, at 152 and Darren Faber beat Joe Angevine at 189, 10-4.

Kentwood also got the best of Decatur on Saturday at the Jaguar Invitational Tournament at Emerald Ridge High School. The Conks won the nine-team tournament with 231.5 points and the Gators ended up second (143).

Tillman won Decatur’s only individual championship when he pinned Emerald Ridge’s Nate Wetteraur in the 285-pound title match. The Gators got second-place finishes from Rad Krysa at 103, Dylan Aparis at 145 and Kabelac at 152.

Girls basketball

Freshmen Talia Walton and Brittany Barrington combined to score 30 points to lead Federal Way to a 50-31 win at Tahoma Friday night.

The win kept the Eagles (12-4 overall, 7-3 league) in second place in the South Puget Sound League North Division behind unbeaten Kentwood.

The 6-foot-1 Walton scored a game-high 18 points and Barrington chipped in 12.

Federal Way led only 32-26 entering the fourth quarter, but the Eagles outscored Tahoma, 18-5, in the final eight minutes.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders fell into sixth place in the SPSL North with a 73-39 loss to first-place Kentwood Friday night. The loss dropped the Raiders to 10-7 overall and 4-6 in the SPSL North. Only the top-five finishers advance into the SPSL Tournament and TJ sits one game back of Tahoma.

The Raiders were led by the 11 points of sophomore Hannah Kiyohara and Sofia Malamura chipped in nine. Kentwood (12-3, 10-0) was led by the 22 points of Lindsay Moore.
