• Former Federal Way High School graduate Jodie Kaczor Berry and her Gonzaga Bulldogs women’s basketball team will be in Seattle this weekend. The Bulldogs (27-4) will take on the North Carolina Tarheels at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank of America Arena on the University of Washington campus today (March 20).
Berry, a 1997 FWHS grad, is in her seventh year as a member of the Gonzaga coaching staff. Berry served as the coordinator of women’s basketball operations for Gonzaga for two seasons prior to being promoted to an assistant coach role in the summer of 2005. She was promoted to the Zag top assistant in the summer of 2008.
Gonzaga is riding an 18-game winning streak and was rewarded for its season with a program-high seventh seed into the NCAA Tournament against No. 10 North Carolina (19-11).
Berry led the Eagles to a state championship in 1997 before heading to Western Washington University.
She earned four letters at Western and finished her career as WWU’s career leader in 3-pointers (210) and free-throw percentage (81.9) and earned All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors in 2001 and 2002.

• Decatur High School senior Jordan McCloud will play in the 2010 WIBCA All-State game today at Mountlake Terrace High School.
The event will match some of the top high-school basketball players from across the state. There will be three games which will match up standouts from all six classifications. Class 1B and 2B will play at noon, 1A plays 2A at 2 p.m. and 3A and 4A headline the event at 4 p.m.
In addition to the games, state players of the year and the Mr. Basketball award will be presented. McCloud averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Gators and was the first Decatur basketball player to compete in four Class 4A state tournaments.
Admission to the event is $10 for an all-day pass and $5 for students with ASB cards.

• Western Washington University guard Morris Anderson received first-team honors on the 2009-10 National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II West All-District Team announced Wednesday.
Anderson, a Federal Way High School grad, finished second among the Vikings in scoring at 14.7 points a game, and led the team in assists (5.2 avg.), 3-point makes (2.3), and steals (2.5), topping the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and ranking 14th nationally in the latter category. He also paced the conference in free throw percentage at 86.2 percent (94-of-109), at one point making a school record 39 consecutive free throws.
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches’ Division II All-America teams, selected by the NABC.
Anderson was earlier named first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Daktronics West Region All-Star team.

• The Federal Way Boys and Girls Club is currently enrolling youth for the 2010 coed spring baseball leagues. The deadline for registration is April 23. Late registration will be accepted on a space-available basis and is an additional $5.
The coed spring league is a program for boys and girls in grades K through 7. Grades 1-2 will be a coed, coach-pitch league. Grades 3-4 will be a coed half-game coachpitch, half-game kid pitch. Grades 5-7 is a coed kid-pitch league. Teams are formed from local elementary and middle schools, area, and grade. The season runs from April 26-June 19. Games are played in the surrounding Federal Way area school ball fields.
The Club is also offering a Kindergarten Clinic for 4 through 6 year olds held on Saturdays only from 10-11 a.m. The Clinic runs from May 8-June 12.
The program costs $60 for 1st-7th grade/$55 for the Kindergarten clinic (plus $20 current Club membership fee).
The Club is also forming teams for their spring basketball league. Teams are formed by local school and/or area.
The divisions are divided into boys and girls leagues. The boys league consists of fourth and fifth grades, sixth grade, and seventh and eighth grades. Girls league consists of fourth and fifth grades and sixth and seventh grades.
The season runs from May 5-June 19. Games are played at the Boys and Girls Club and EX3. This is a games-only league. Volunteer coaches can get practice time at local schools.
The program costs $60 for all league (plus $20 current Club membership fee).
