Former Decatur High School wrestler Kyle Bressler was one of four student-athletes at Oregon State University to be named recipients of $3,000 Pac-10 Conference Postgraduate Scholarships for 2007-08.

Four student-athletes from each of the 10 Pac-10 schools, including Bressler, are now candidates for the Orowheat Healthy Minds Scholarship. The Healthy Minds scholarship provides $10,000 each to one male and one female student-athlete for postgraduate study. The winners are selected by a Pac-10 committee which includes institutional administrators and a student-athlete member of the Pac-10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The scholarship winners will be announced in August.

To be selected for a Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall undergraduate minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or its equivalent. The student-athlete will be evaluated on the basis of all academic work completed at time of selection, among other things.

Since the program began in 1999, the Pac-10 has awarded over $1 million for postgraduate study.

Bressler, who is entering his senior season for the Beavers, was one of three Beaver wrestlers to qualify for the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo., after winning the Pac-10 title at 197 pounds.

It was his second consecutive year qualifying for the championships after earning an at-large bid in 2007 at 184 pounds.

Bressler was also named to the 2007-08 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic Team recently.

Bressler, a Construction Engineering major, was the lone Oregon State wrestler to make the list and one of 88 total NCAA Division I wrestlers to make the individual list.

Wrestlers must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule.

Bressler won two state championships while wrestling at Decatur at 189 pounds and 117-6 with 70 pins in his Gator career. He finished 40-0 with 26 pins as a senior.
