FOOTBALL: Sixth-ranked Eagles, McClatcher run past Puyallup

The sixth-ranked Federal Way Eagles and junior Chico McClatcher did what they do Friday night during a 49-25 win over the Puyallup Vikings at Sparks Stadium.

The electric Eagles tallied five touchdowns of 46 yards or more and McClatcher finished with three of them, including one rushing, one receiving and one kick return. McClatcher ended up with 303 all-purpose yards on only seven touches to lead Federal Way to a 4-1 record in the South Puget Sound League South Division.

Puyallup (3-2) took a 7-0 lead on a 31-yard pass from Brendan Illies to D.J. Winter. But McClatcher took a screen pass from Keenan Curran 63 yards for his first score and then Ryan Gnoinsky caught a 74-yarder form Curran to give Federal Way a 14-7 lead.

After the Vikings tied the score at 14 midway through the second quarter, McClatcher took the ensuing kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, giving the Eagles the lead for good.

Curran also caught a 46-yard pass from sophomore D’Jimon Jones later in the second quarter to give Federal Way a 28-17 halftime lead.

McClatcher opened the second half by rolling 56 yards on a handoff. James Black added a 21-yard touchdown run and Curran finished the scoring with a 10-yard scoring run.

Illies passed for 387 yards and three touchdowns for Puyallup.

The Eagles will take on the Todd Beamer Titans Friday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

At Lakes 42, Decatur 21

Lakes, a perennial SPSL 3A power, picked up its first victory of the season Friday over the Gators at Harry E. Lang Stadium. The Lancers tallied 35 straight points after the Gators (1-4) took a 7-0 lead.

Isaiah Diggs got things going for Decatur in the first quarter with a 19-yard touchdown run. Diggs scored all three of the Gators’ touchdowns Friday night. Diggs added a 35-yard touchdown and a 30-yard TD catch from Isaiah Hatch in the fourth quarter.

The Gators will host Bonney Lake Thursday night in SPSL 3A action at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Curtis 34, Beamer 10

The Vikings broke a 10-10 tie with a Mason Mahoney 35-yard field goal late in the second quarter. Curtis added three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to finalize the score in the SPSL South battle Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Beamer (1-4) got a 32-yard field goal from Sean Van Earwage early in the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3. Brody Martinez scored the Titans’ only touchdown later in the second quarter on a 34-yard run to tie the game again at 10-10.

Beamer will take on sixth-ranked Federal Way Friday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Auburn Riverside 31, Jefferson 21

Auburn Riverside turned to its ground game Thursday, piling up 219 yards rushing with three touchdowns to sweep past Jefferson, 31-21, in SPSL North 4A action.

Cole Huckleby’s 92 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown led the Ravens (5-0 league, 5-0 overall). Senior quarterback Kevin Thomson added 86 yards on nine carries and Joey Luchessi had six carries for 32 yards and a TD. Gavin Hettinger and Joey Galeno added rushing touchdowns.

Auburn Riverside’s defense also got in on the act with Artem Deyenka returning a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens held Jefferson (2-3, 2-2) to 209 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.

The Raiders’ got touchdowns from Josh Coleman, Zach Grayson and Josh Madden. Jefferson will take on Auburn Thursday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
