The second-ranked Federal Way Eagles continued their impressive play Friday night with a 63-20 blowout of the Puyallup Vikings.

The Eagles (5-0) were just too much for the Vikings during a first-half scoring blitz inside Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The Eagles tallied an eye-popping 56 points during the first two quarters Friday night to remain atop the South Puget Sound League South Division.

The two teams exchanged touchdowns early in the first quarter on big play after big play. The Eagles struck first on a 61-yard touchdown run by senior Zeek McNeal. Puyallup countered on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Brendan Illies to Rob Howard to tie the game at 7-7.

Federal Way sophomore Chico McClatcher then tallied the first of his four touchdowns on the night by hauling in a 41-yard pass from Evan Elliot, which was immediately answered by a 28-yard Illies to Levi Jordan TD for the Vikings. The Eagles, however, blocked the extra-point attempt to lead 14-13.

Federal Way took control of the game with two-straight touchdowns later in the first quarter on a 63-yard run from McNeal and a 9-yard pass from Elliot to senior Mike Tate to go up 28-13.

Puyallup’s last points of the game came on a Justin Janker catch late in the first quarter to but the lead to eight, 28-20.

It was all Federal Way from that point on. The Eagles tallied 35 unanswered points during the second and third quarters and racked up a total of 542 yards of offense against Puyallup.

The Eagles’ scores came on a 1-yard run by Rod Jones, a 3-yard catch from Tate and three touchdowns from McClatcher, including a 31-yard run, a 53-yard pass from Elliot and another 21-yard run. Elliot finished with four touchdown passes.

The Eagles, who trail only Skyline in the state rankings after formerly second-ranked Mead lost to Gonzaga Prep last weekend, will take on Beamer Friday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Jefferson 31, at Auburn Riverside 30 (OT)

The Raiders (2-3) won their second game of the season Friday night in overtime over the Ravens. After the game ended in a 23-23 tie after regulation, Auburn Riverside’s Kevin Thomson scored on the Ravens’ first overtime possession to take a 30-23 lead.

But Jefferson came right back and quarterback Niko DelaCruz connected with Kyle Dougherty on a 25-yard touchdown. Instead of attempting the game-tying extra-point, the Raiders went for two and DelaCruz and Dougherty hooked up again for the win.

Riverside jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter. Jefferson’s first touchdown came on a 13-yard catch from Josh Coleman. The Raiders then converted the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 17-8. The Ravens added a field goal later in the quarter to take a 20-8 lead into halftime. Jefferson added a pair of second half touchdowns, including a 94-yard run by DelaCruz and a 6-yard run from Dabrian Taylor to take a 23-20 lead. DelaCruz finished with 177 yards rushing on 20 attempts and 108 yards passing.

But Auburn Riverside drove down the field and Brandon Starks hit a 20-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.

Curtis 49, Beamer 0 (Friday)

The Titans were blown away Friday night in University Place by the Vikings to fall to 1-4 on the season.

Curtis lead 21-0 at half and got 107 yards and two touchdowns from E.J. Deveaux on 17 carries, and Scott Wismer threw for 161 yards, completing 10 of 13 passes. He also rushed for touchdown.

Beamer couldn’t get anything going offensively and only had one first down in the first half. The Titans had just 18 yards of total offense in the opening two quarters.

Things don’t get any easier for Beamer, who play third-ranked Federal Way Friday night.

Lakes 55, Decatur 18 (Saturday)

The Lancers (3-2) dominated the Gators (1-4) at Federal Way Memorial Stadium in an SPSL 3A battle.

Lakes, the defending league champs, took a quick 14-0 lead with two first-quarter touchdowns. Decatur’s first points of the game came on a 32-yard field goal from Spencer Smith. But Lakes then tallied 21-straight points to take a 35-3 lead later in the second quarter.

Decatur did get a touchdown right before the half on a 67-yard run by Noel Maafala. But Lakes got three more touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 55-10.

The Gators scored the only points in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard run by Isaiah Diggs.

Decatur will travel to Bonney Lake on Friday night to take on the Panthers.
