Federal Way Spring Sports Preview: Baseball, softball and soccer

Check below for information on last years sports records and stats from the seasons.

The 2023 spring sports season is upon us. Here is a preview of what each school did last season.

Baseball

Decatur Golden Gators: Last season, the Gators had their best win total since 2015 after the Gators went 11-9. Decatur finished 7th in the combined NPSL standings, but came in sixth in the 4A classification, just missing a playoff birth.

Federal Way Eagles: 2022 was a great year for the blue and white on the diamond. Federal Way ended the regular season on a three-game win streak, getting them to the district tournament. The Eagles faced a difficult challenge taking on Puyallup and Rogers in their two games, losing both of them.

Thomas Jefferson Raiders: The Raiders also made history this past baseball season. Like Federal Way, TJ ended the season on a three-game win streak. The Raiders finished with nine wins a season ago, which was the most wins since 2016, when they won 11 games.

Todd Beamer Titans: It was a season to forget for Todd Beamer last season, winning just one game all season. The Titans’ one victory came in their last game of the season against Kent-Meridian, 7-6. Todd Beamer is just three seasons removed from a nine-win season, and here’s hoping they can get back to that form this year.

Softball

Decatur Golden Gators: The Gators had their best season since 2010, record-wise. The Gators went 13-7 last year and came in second place in the league. Decatur also went on to the district tournament as the six seed, but lost back-to-back games, ending their season prematurely.

Federal Way Eagles: The 2022 season was tough for the Eagles. Federal Way only won one league game, but the Eagles’ record was 5-12, improving on their 2-11 season in 2021. Federal Way hopes to get back to their 2019 form when they went 15-5 that season.

Thomas Jefferson Raiders: The Raiders had their best season in seven years on the softball diamond. One of the more unique aspects of the Raiders’ 2022 season was they tied twice last season against Hazen 8-8 and Liberty (Renton) 16-16. The Raiders also made the postseason despite going 0-2 in their games. If TJ can build on this momentum, they could be a surprise team in 2023.

Todd Beamer Titans: For the Titans, 2022 was not their year. Todd Beamer finished at the bottom of the standings, only winning two games. Todd Beamer has been in a bit of a rough patch over the recent years. The last time the Titans were over .500 was back in 2017 when they went 12-9.

Soccer

Decatur Golden Gators: The Gators did just enough to reach the postseason last year, reaching the district playoffs as the eighth seed. They faced the would-be state champions Bellarmine in the first round. The Gators finished with a record of 8-3-4.

Federal Way Eagles: The Eagles had the tale of two seasons last year. To start the season, Federal Way was 2-0-2, their best stretch of the season. Then the Eagles lost seven out of their last eight games. Here’s hoping the Eagles can get back to their 2018 season where they won 11 games.

Thomas Jefferson Raiders: The Raiders got off to a bad start in the 2022 season, going winless in their first four games. Their first win came in a game against Federal Way, 1-0. The Raiders went on a great run at the end of the season as well, winning three of their last four games getting into the postseason. However, TJ lost their loser-out playoff game against Bonney Lake.

Todd Beamer Titans: Todd Beamer struggled out of the gate last year. Over the course of their first six games, they went 0-5-1. The Titans got outscored 3-24 over their six games. But, the Titans played very good soccer at the end of the season, winning three out of five games to end the season.
