Federal Way High School senior football player Chico McClatcher made a verbal commitment to play for the Huskies next year.
McClatcher is expected to be a slot receiver for the University of Washington’s football program.
McClatcher reportedly chose the University of Washington over several offers from other universities, including Portland State and Washington State universities.
“When he gets into the open field, forget it. He’s too explosive to catch,” Brandon Huffman, national recruiting coordinator for Scout.com, told the Seattle Times recently. “He’s got good top-end speed, but it’s his burst through the line of scrimmage that makes him so dangerous. … He sees the hole before it opens and gets through it.”
According to 24/7 Sports, McClatcher is 5 feet, 9-inches tall and 185 pounds.
He is listed as having a 4.41-second 40-yard dash and is a three-time Star Times selection. McClatcher scored 37 touchdowns this football season and rushed for 2,283 yards.
“I was so excited to hear that he will be at UW because that means he will be close to home and we can watch him play on television,” said John Meagher, Federal Way High School football coach. “He was the most valuable player in a lot of different ways and he scored 91 touchdowns in his career here — that will be a hard one to replace.”
This October, McClatcher made a South Puget South League record when he rushed for 397 yards in a 70-24 victory against Decatur High School.
“He’s a very electric and explosive player,” Meagher said. “As soon as he walks on the UW campus he’s going to be their best punt returner; that’s his niche on the field.”
